Rutger published: Zaya Wade Opens Up About Her Journey with Hormone Replacement Therapy: "I Just Feel So Perfect"

Zaya Wade, the daughter of former NBA star Dwyane Wade, has candidly shared her experiences with gender-affirming care, revealing that she has "never been happier" since beginning hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The young advocate has been vocal about her transition, and her journey has been one of growth, acceptance, and empowerment.

In 2020, Dwyane Wade publicly supported Zaya's decision to come out as transgender during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres. He expressed how his daughter had confided in him and his wife, Gabrielle Union, about her identity, and since then, Zaya has been an inspiring figure for many in the LGBTQ+ community.

At just 17, Zaya is blossoming into a style icon, model, and co-founder of the non-profit organization Translatable. As she navigates the challenges of teenage life, she also faces the complexities of growing up in a world where anti-trans and anti-diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) laws are prevalent.

Zaya's Determination Amidst Challenges

Speaking to Seventeen Magazine, Zaya expressed how recent political changes, particularly during the Trump administration, initially felt defeating. "The administration really knocked me back. I couldn’t stand up for a little bit," Zaya admitted. "But then I realized it’s time to roll up my sleeves and keep going." Her resilience and determination to stand up for herself and others are truly remarkable.

Despite the societal challenges, Zaya remains unapologetically herself—a proud Black transgender young woman. Her confidence in her identity is a testament to her strength and spirit.

Embracing Authenticity and Beauty

As a budding model, Zaya is keen on maintaining authenticity in her career. She talks about walking the runway "authentically" and how important it is to honor her identity and culture. "I wasn’t diminishing the cultural importance of braids. I wasn’t hiding my transition, my gender, or my skin," she emphasized.

When discussing her beauty routine, Zaya highlights how hormone replacement therapy has shifted her perspective. "I’ve had to switch my understanding of puberty to a more feminine side of things," she explained. "The introduction of estrogen has been a game-changer in my beauty regimen. I’ve never been happier than how I am on estrogen. I just feel so perfect," she added.

Her focus on skincare is part of her journey of embracing a new chapter in her life. "I’m really into skincare," Zaya shared, illustrating how she is nurturing herself and exploring her identity.

Support for Those Affected

Zaya's story is one of many that highlight the importance of support and community for transgender and nonbinary individuals. For those who feel affected by similar journeys, resources such as the Trans Lifeline Hotline provide essential support. This service allows individuals to speak to trans and nonbinary peer operators with full anonymity and confidentiality.

As Zaya continues to advocate for transgender rights and inspire others with her story, she remains a beacon of hope and strength in the face of adversity. Her journey is a reminder of the importance of authenticity, self-love, and community support.
