Julia Garner Provides Insight on the Madonna Biopic Delays
Julia Garner, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in "Ozark" and "Fantastic Four: First Steps," has recently shared significant updates about the long-awaited Madonna biopic. The project, which has been in development for several years, has faced numerous delays, leaving fans eager for news.
Originally announced in 2020, the Madonna biopic generated excitement with the revelation that the iconic singer would be heavily involved, taking on the roles of writer and director. Julia Garner was cast in the role of Madonna last year, adding to the anticipation surrounding the film.
Despite the enthusiasm, the biopic has encountered several setbacks. Nevertheless, Garner has remained committed to the project, even as its future became uncertain.
In a recent appearance on the "SmartLess" podcast, hosted by her "Ozark" co-star Jason Bateman, Garner discussed her involvement with the project. She candidly spoke about the challenges she faced during the audition process, which allegedly included a rigorous boot camp designed to test her dancing and singing abilities.
"That’s supposed to still happen," Garner stated, indicating her belief that the project remains viable. She described her determination to embody Madonna's own fearless spirit during the auditions, asserting, "I just thought what would Madonna do, which is convince you that she deserves to be in this room, and I owned it. I was like, ‘You can take it or leave it. But if you leave it, then that’s on you.’"
Her dedication to mastering the performance elements required for the film was evident. "I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it," she explained. "I wasn’t a trained dancer and I had to learn how to dance and then dance in front of Madonna and convince her that I can dance, basically, and sing. And sing with her!"
Fans were disappointed when it was revealed that the biopic was put on hold indefinitely. However, Madonna herself suggested that the project might adapt to a series format instead. This shift could provide more depth and exploration into the life of the iconic pop star.
Recent reports indicate that Madonna is in discussions with Shawn Levy, known for his work on "Deadpool & Wolverine," to develop a TV series. Although the series is said to be in the early stages of development, Garner has reportedly remained engaged with the project.
"Anything that’s great, takes a long time," Garner remarked, expressing her patience and optimism regarding the project's evolution.
As it stands, the transformation from a film to a television series could offer new opportunities for storytelling. Garner's involvement provides continuity, ensuring that fans will see her portrayal of Madonna, whether on the big screen or through a series.
The ongoing collaboration between Garner, Madonna, and Levy suggests that, despite the delays, the project remains a priority for those involved.
While the biopic's journey has been tumultuous, the passion and dedication from Garner and the team offer hope that the world will eventually get to see the story of Madonna brought to life in a compelling way.
For now, audiences can catch Julia Garner in "Fantastic Four: First Steps," which is currently showing in cinemas. As the news unfolds regarding the Madonna project, fans remain eager to see how this exciting venture will develop.
