Pamela Bondi and LGBTQ+ rights: A contentious history
Back in 2015, just before same-sex marriage became legal nationwide, Bondi was one loud voice opposing it. She fought fiercely against legalizing same-sex marriage in Florida, leaving a mark many haven't forgotten.
In 2014, Bondi tried hard, even taking a case urging a federal judge not just once, but filing a motion, arguing that recognizing out-of-state same-sex marriages would bring "significant public harm." But despite her efforts, Florida's ban was overturned in courts.
Her office spent a big chunk from taxpayers' pockets fighting against marriage equality while other states were dropping their bans. She even asked, without success, that Florida's ban be taken up by our nation‘s highest court. Not surprisingly, Equality Florida slammed her move, calling it "deplorable."
Nadine Smith, Equality Florida's CEO, didn't mince words criticizing Bondi, pointing out how her actions actually hurt LGBTQ+ families. Smith emphasized that a majority in Florida supported marriage equality, which was completely opposite Bondi's stance.

Bondi defended herself, insisting she was just upholding state laws. "I've never said I don't like gay people. That's ridiculous,” she argued. But did her record say otherwise?
