During his first speech as President on Monday, Donald Trump hinted at some executive orders that could have a big impact on transgender individuals. While we're still waiting on all details, it seems clear these changes would mark a big shift in how gender identity policies are handled by our government.>
President Trump proclaimed, "This week, I'll also put an end on government policies trying hard at socially engineering race and gender in all parts and walks in public and private life. From now on, it's going on record as United States government's policy that there are only two genders: male and female.">
His words suggest a step back from efforts aimed at enhancing diversity and inclusivity, both publicly and privately.>
The president also expressed a desire, as he put it, “to stop our warriors from being subjected by radical political theories and social experiments during duty. It's ending right away.">
These remarks are raising eyebrows about what this could mean not only, more immediately, in terms alone, than that, regarding transgender service members but also, more broadly, what it may mean in gender inclusion policies in armed forces.>
Right after taking office, President Trump was expected in signing upwards on 200 executive moves at least. When it comes down specifically, through gender identity and LGBTQ rights, there's word his administration may be looking at options potentially barring transgender student athletes fro sports and keeping transgender people from joining or serving in military.>
Rumors have it two major executive orders are nearing completion: one could affirm recognizing just two genders, and one more could dismantle some diversity, inclusion, and equity programs within federal branches.>
One order on deck aims at reversing Biden-Harris's 2022 policy, allowing U.S. citizens a gender-neutral "x" on passports and other official papers. The new rule would require federal agencies using "sex," not "gender" in recording identities on documents.>
Sources claim this order requires federal language on “sex” instead over “gender,” directing State Department and Homeland Security that government records, including passports and visas, reflect sex correctly.>
Another possible executive order might put a limit on taxpayer-funded gender-transition health care, especially in prisons. Though specifics remain vague, it would look quite different from prior policies that supported transgender health care access.>
The Human Rights Campaign didn't waste any time. President Kelley Robinson released strong words expressing their concern over these expected executive movements. “Today, Trump administration expected comes out with a slew on executive actions targeting LGBTQ+ community, rather than pulling country together and tackling pressing people issues across America's workplace,” she stated.>
Robinson emphasized these changes won't be a done-deal immediately, leaving time left advocating against them.>
“Everyone deserves dignity plus respect in every walk their life,” Robinson continued. “No person should face any discrimination, harassment, or humiliation at school, work, or accessing healthcare. What these actions propose, targeting LGBTQ+ community, harms our families and communities.”>
She pointed out how ongoing their fight remains: “Our community has fought years ensuring our relationships get respect no matter our workplace, acknowledging our identity at school, honoring service within military ranks. Any strike against rights endangers anyone who won't fit narrow view on looks and actions. This administration tries dividing us—hoping we forget, what gives us strength. But fearing nothing, we refuse backing down.”>
Robinson wrapped up passionately: “We're not going anywhere anytime soon, and we'll battle these harmful provisions with all we've got.”>
