Rutger published: MAGA Commentator Calls for Taylor Swift to Adopt Traditional Gender Roles in Marriage

Charlie Kirk stirs up controversy over Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

In a recent show, Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator known well enough in certain circles, made waves with his comments about Taylor Swift's rumored relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce. Kirk, who's had his fair share (or maybe more) when it comes down inflammatory and anti-LGBTQ+ statements, suggested that marriage might push Swift away from her independent and liberal ideals towards more traditional conservative values. Quite a take, right?

The "three M's" theory

Broadcasting on Real America's Voice, Kirk put forth his idea that settling down with marriage and a family could shake up Swift's political beliefs. “There might be something here worth celebrating,” he claimed. He brought up his idea about "the three M's"—marriage, mortgage, and mating—as paths leading towards becoming a "better citizen" and adopting conservative views. Kirk implied that Swift's current liberal outlook could shift if she were, in fact, settled down with a family, suggesting such changes might "de-racialize" her. Sounds like a lot hinges on these "M's," doesn't it?

Old-school gender roles in focus

Kirk didn't stop there. He expressed a wish that Swift and Kelce would start a large family, thinking it might prompt Swift away from her feminist ideals. “I'd love them have lots kids,” he said. “It teaches you something about yourself … Taylor Swift might swap being a cat lady with supporting JD Vance, and I think we should cheer that on.” This idea isn't exactly new in some conservative circles—trying traditional family roles with political conservativism.

Kirk also took a shot at Swift's career decisions, suggesting she wasn't a "great role model" because she put her career ahead personal milestones, like marriage, until her mid-thirties. He saw marriage as her chance adopt a more traditional lifestyle.

A push against feminism

Kirk even suggested that changes in Swift's personal life could see her pulling back from supporting liberal causes, like backing politicians such as Joe Biden. “If she has kids, she'll back off this liberal Biden endorsing nonsense,” he said. “We want Taylor Swift on 'Team America.' We want her out from 'wokie island.'”

This brought backlash, as many saw it as promoting outdated gender roles and underestimating women's autonomy and empowerment, sparking quite a conversation.

Kirk's history with bold statements

Kirk's no stranger provocative talk, often focusing his rhetoric on marginalized communities. He's accused Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) trying “eliminate white population” over her stance on Texas's redistricting plans. His controversial views have also attacked LGBTQ+ community; he's described transgender people as “an abomination” and argued transgender identities go against “natural law.” Plus, he's compared homosexuality with addiction, as if it were like alcoholism or drug dependence.

As founder Turning Point USA, a conservative student group, Kirk's views often mirror a wider conservative agenda aimed showing young audiences his perspective. His comments about Swift's possible marriage fall right in line with his pattern advocating traditional gender roles and dismissing progressive social movements.

Even with his divisive talk, Kirk's remarks about Taylor Swift continue fueling debate, spotlighting cultural clashes between conservative and liberal values in America.
