J.K. Rowling, famous worldwide as "Harry Potter's" creator, has recently found herself in hot water over her choice in pen name and her controversial views on transgender rights. Just lately, Jinkx Monsoon—who's a pansexual and nonbinary drag performer and theater artist—playfully critiqued Rowling. Monsoon joked that Rowling's use initials like "J.K." might have been a move towards a more masculine identity. This lighthearted critique comes against a backdrop where Rowling's stance on transgender issues, including her financial support in legal battles in Britain opposing trans rights, has been intensely scrutinized.

In a chat with comedian Ziwe Fumudoh, Monsoon was asked if Rowling could play Roxie Hart in "Chicago." Drawing from their own time as Matron "Mama" Morton, Monsoon jokingly quipped, “Who even IS Jake? Jake Haye? Who's that?” Fumudoh quickly corrected, “He means she.”
Monsoon went on, musing about how women authors often rely on initials. Maybe, they speculated, Rowling felt a need "to transition herself" publicly, crafting a new persona in response.

Diving deeper, Monsoon shared about undergoing facial feminization surgery, including jaw and brow reductions, and even two hair transplants. Although not planning further gender-affirming procedures, Monsoon spoke openly about encountering anti-queer slurs, shedding light on pervasive discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals.
The conversation took a humorous turn, critiquing Disney's portrayal with Scar in "The Lion King." Monsoon jested about Scar being Disney's "fruitiest" villain and humorously suggested his scar might stem from bullying.
