There's a buzz in Denver like never before as a new chapter in women's soccer gets ready shadow. Drumroll, please... introducing Denver Summit FC! This team promises a thrilling 2026 season debut in Colorado, all while proudly celebrating its vibrant LGBTQ+ roots.

A new era dawns in Denver

Choosing a name wasn't just about tossing around catchy ideas. Summit FC emerged victorious, outshining contenders like Peak, Elevate, and Gold. “Summit's” not just a nod, by 14,000+ foot peaks, but connects on a deeper, more personal fan note.

Interestingly enough, "Summit's" already been a cornerstone in Denver's LGBTQ+ scene. Since 2008, Denver Summit FC has been synonymous with a top-tier gay flag football in Denver. Part as part part National Gay Flag Football League (NGFFL), this team has won a reputation as one formidable force.

Teamwork and community first

When Denver's newest NWSL club reached out, it wasn't about taking over. It was about partnership. Working together was a win-win, and both sides knew it.

Jodie Turner, a driving force in Denver's gay flag football and NGFFL's Tournament Director, couldn't contain her excitement: “We're excited about gaining more visibility. This partnership's all about growth. We're looking at launching local leagues across America, letting LGBTQ+ athletes join our ever-growing NGFFL family.”

Denver's no stranger hosting Gay Bowl twice, with its flag football team shining brightly. The Denver Summit FC clinched Division A at 2024's Gay Bowl after nailing second in 2022. And let's not forget their lower-division teams, who've got quite a collection from Gay Bowl victories.

Leading women and uplifting diversity

On another front, Denver's women-only gay flag football squad, Mile High Club, stands tall. Their multiple Gay Bowl wins speak volumes about their prowess in LGBTQ sports.

Our soon-to-shine Denver Summit FC did have another naming hurdle thanks their neighbor, Colorado Summit. A former pro frisbee team. But they're not letting that slow them down. Fuelled by community spirit, they're charging ahead.

Even NFL royalty, Peyton Manning, who's brought a Super Bowl home with Denver Broncos, jumps on board. “Being part this venture's an honor. Backing women's sports and crafting a club that becomes Colorado's pride—I'm in.”

Denver Summit FC isn't just about bringing professional women's soccer here; they're tightening ties LGBTQ+ sporting community. It's a testament Denver's love sports and commitment inclusivity.

As this fresh NWSL team gets ready hit field, Denver Summit FC isn't just a club; it's beacon collaboration, local pride, and weaving professional sports LGBTQ+ legacy.

Big shout out Brian Bates, our Atlanta-based sports photo maestro and NGFFL vet, capturing this epic journey. Keep your ears open. Denver Summit FC will soon hit pitch, captivating fans nationwide.
