As a member reflects, "Since we started 1975, we've been a beacon love, acceptance, and spiritual connection LGBTQ+ Jews and allies in our nation's capital and beyond." Founded by small group visionaries, it quickly blossomed a diverse, thriving community that's supported countless individuals and families through time. p>
Synagogue's executive director, Joshua Maxey, shares his excitement about this monumental anniversary: "Celebrating our 50th anniversary truly special," says Maxey. "Our congregation was born from courage LGBTQ Jewish individuals who didn't feel comfortable, perhaps even safe, their own communities and synagogues. They courageously started their own community, and here we are, 50 years later, thriving and proud." p>
Currently with about 190 members, Bet Mishapachah holds its Friday evening Shabbat services at Edlavitch D.C. Jewish Community Center, situated at 1529 16th St., N.W. Thanks its inclusive and friendly vibe, it keeps drawing people from all walks life, making it an essential part D.C.'s cultural and spiritual fabric. p>
