Rutger published: Wanda Alston Foundation Welcomes Cesar Toledo as New Executive Director

Since 2008, The Wanda Alston Foundation has been a cornerstone in supporting homeless LGBTQ youth in Washington, D.C. Now, there's a buzz in their community as they introduce Cesar Toledo as their new Executive Director. He'll be stepping in this coming November 2024, following June Crenshaw's remarkable nine-year tenure. June's dedication has left a lasting impact, and Cesar's arrival marks an exciting new chapter.

On April 22, in a heartfelt statement, they expressed deep gratitude towards Crenshaw's incredible leadership and extended a warm welcome and enthusiasm toward what Cesar Toledo brings. "June's leadership has been truly transformative," mentioned Board Chair Darring Glymph. "We're immensely grateful and equally excited about Cesar's energy and expertise as we enter this new era," Glymph added.

Meet Cesar Toledo: A passionate advocate

Cesar Toledo steps in with a wealth not just in experience, but genuine advocacy, having championed LGBTQ+ rights tirelessly. Over a decade, he has spearheaded national campaigns, driven public policy initiatives, and strengthened inclusive communities. Before joining Wanda Alston Foundation, he served with distinction as National LGBTQ+ Engagement Director on Harris's presidential campaign, where he made significant strides in equality and education.

His journey didn't stop there. At Democrats For Education Reform DC (DFER DC), he took on a role that combined political strategy and advocacy, electing leaders committed not just in words but actions towards equitable education. His tenure as Political Director with The LGBTQ+ Victory Fund further emphasizes his dedication, helping elect LGBTQ candidates across various U.S. offices.

"I'm really excited about joining The Wanda Alston Foundation," Cesar shared with enthusiasm. "After years working at politics and policy intersections, I wanted a more hands-on role that makes a difference in vulnerable LGBTQ youth's lives," he explained.

Cesar's vision: Paving a path forward

Toledo's plans revolve around boosting The Wanda Alston Foundation's visibility, ensuring their mission stays strong despite political challenges. "Our goal," Toledo emphasized, "is bolstering programs and outreach so every LGBTQ youth in need can find a supportive, safe haven with us."

This foundation carries on Wanda Alston's legacy, an indomitable activist and community leader whose influence resonates in D.C. Since its establishment, it has been pivotal in offering life-saving aid and transitional housing, a beacon in our nation's capital.

A tribute: Celebrating June Crenshaw

To honor June Crenshaw's significant service, The Wanda Alston Foundation has planned a special celebration on May 20 from 6-8 p.m. at Crush Dance Bar, located on 14th Street, N.W., D.C. It'll be a chance not only too express gratitude but celebrate her steadfast commitment.

"Let's come together in appreciation," they urge, emphasizing June's contributions towards LGBTQIA homeless youth.

As Cesar Toledo takes on this leadership mantle, The Wanda Alston Foundation holds firm in its mission, readying itself with fresh initiatives and a commitment toward a brighter, inclusive future in Washington, D.C.'s LGBTQ community.
