Taylor Zakhar Perez has taken a humorous stance on why he remains blissfully unaware of the details surrounding the sequel to the hit film 'Red, White & Royal Blue'.
Released on Prime Video in 2023, the film, directed by Matthew López, captivated audiences with its passionate and heartfelt narrative derived from Casey McQuiston's beloved novel. Garnering significant attention, it quickly became one of the streaming service's top-performing movies and a cultural phenomenon.
In 'Red, White & Royal Blue', Perez portrays the character Alex Claremont-Diaz, the bisexual son of the first female president of the United States, played by Uma Thurman. His character's romantic entanglement with Prince Henry, portrayed by Nicholas Galitzine, is central to the story.
With news of a sequel already confirmed, both Perez and Galitzine are set to reprise their roles. Despite this, Perez has amusingly opted to remain in the dark regarding any specifics of the upcoming film, explaining his reasons in an interview with Elle Magazine.
In the interview, Perez shared with a laugh, "I purposefully said, 'Please do not share with me anything until we are ready to prep it, because I want plausible deniability.'"
Although he hasn't been privy to the script, he mentioned, "I have not read a script, but I hear it’s very good." Perez also expressed his deep connection to the first film, stating, "My role in 'Red, White & Royal Blue' was really special."
He further reflected on the impact of the film, noting, "People in their 60s and 70s tell me they wish they had this kind of movie when they were younger. So this isn’t a project I take for granted."
Fans of the film will be pleased to hear that the sequel promises the return of familiar faces. Sarah Shahi, who plays Deputy Chief of Staff Zarah Bankston, confirmed her return to the sequel in an interview with Collider. "Yes, I actually am returning for the sequel. Zahra is back," she revealed.
In terms of the sequel's progress, producer Greg Berlanti provided an update to Variety last September, indicating that the script was nearing completion. "What’s so great is that it feels like the natural next step in the journey of these characters," he commented.
The anticipation surrounding the sequel is palpable, as viewers eagerly await the continuation of Alex and Henry's story. While specifics remain under wraps, fans are excited to see how the characters' narratives evolve.
As the release of 'Red, White & Royal Blue 2' draws nearer, it's clear that the film holds a special place not only for its audience but also for its cast. The impact of the first film transcended generations, resonating deeply with viewers who longed for such representation in cinema during their formative years.
