**Rep. Mark Pocan and Rep. Derrick Van Orden Face Off Outside Capitol**
In a dramatic scene outside Capitol Hill, Rep. Mark Pocan, an openly gay Democrat from Wisconsin, found himself in a heated exchange with Derrick Van Orden, his far-right Republican colleague from their home state. The confrontation, which quickly grabbed reporters' attention, unfolded live in front of news cameras.
## How things got heated
It all kicked off while Pocan was chatting with fellow Wisconsin Representative Tony Wied, a Republican. Outta nowhere, Van Orden roared up on his 2019 Harley Davidson Softail Slim. Talk about making an entrance!
“There goes your loud-mouthed buddy, Derrick Van Orden. Feel free t' quote me on that,” Pocan quipped, not missing a beat as he addressed a reporter nearby.
Van Orden was obviously riled up. “Are you outta your mind? People see and read this stuff,” he shot back, as Wied got caught in their crossfire, looking pretty uncomfortable.
## Brewing political tensions
Their spat wasn't just a random flare-up; it had been simmering online. It all started when Pocan shared a satirical New Yorker cartoon poking fun at proposed Medicaid cuts, calling it "great work." Van Orden wasn't having it, though, and lashed out on social media, pointing fingers at Wisconsin's Medicaid funding issues and state mismanagement.
“Maybe you should seek some mental health counseling,” Van Orden jabbed at Pocan, turning up their feud a notch.
Pocan didn't let it slide, either. By morning, he clapped back, highlighting Van Orden's contradictory views and typos. “Only someone ignorant would cut Medicaid and not know how t' spell it,” Pocan fired off.
## A fiery Capitol encounter
Later, Pocan went directly at Van Orden in person. “Saw your late-night tweet,” Pocan said pointedly. Van Orden defended himself, claiming, “I was working on NDAA stuff, not that it concerns you.”
Things got intense when Van Orden accused Pocan, suggesting he lacked real-world experience and misused campaign funds. Pocan counter-punched, citing his years owning a union print shop in Madison. “Hey Tony, you know how tough running a business can be, right?” Pocan asked Wied, who just nodded along, staying outta it.
Unmoved by it all, Pocan pressed on: “Are you drinking right now, Derrick? That‘s what I wanna know.” Known his hot temper, Van Orden eventually stormed off, leaving Pocan shaking his head at it all.
## Van Orden's checkered history
This isn't Van Orden's first brush with controversy. Back in 2023, he got heat after berating Senate pages in a Capitol Rotunda photo session, telling them off with some choice words. He stirred things up before, like during a confrontation over a Pride Month book display at a Wisconsin library.
