Antoni Porowski Reflects on Evolving Relationships with Queer Eye Co-Stars
Antoni Porowski, known for his culinary expertise on the popular show Queer Eye, recently shared his thoughts on the evolving dynamics within the Fab Five, particularly following the departure of long-time co-star Bobby Berk.
Bobby Berk, the interior design maestro of the group, announced in late 2023 that he would be stepping away from the beloved Netflix series after its eighth season. This decision came as the Fab Five members—Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness, Tan France, and Karamo Brown—reached the conclusion of their contract with the show.
Berk explained that he had “moved on emotionally” and was in the process of planning new ventures. Although he anticipated that his fellow co-stars might also leave the show, they continued on, welcoming a new member to the team. Berk’s role was taken up by Jeremiah Brent, an interiors expert known for his work on Say I Do.
As the new ninth season of Queer Eye airs, Brent has been lauded by his new co-stars for bringing “so much love” and fresh energy to the series.
While the departure of Berk stirred some rumors about possible rifts among the original Fab Five, particularly with fashion icon Tan France, Antoni Porowski has been open about the current state of his relationship with Berk. In a recent interview promoting his new cooking travel show, No Taste Like Home, Porowski candidly discussed how he and Berk are "not really in touch" at the moment.
Reflecting on the situation, Porowski said, “The show is evolving and changing, and our family has changed, and it’s still really exciting… Look, I’ve said this before, but we’re a middle-aged boy band, and we’ve experienced this really bizarre phenomenon together.”
He continued by expressing a philosophical outlook on the changes, “I think I try to lean into the impermanence and just have faith that everything is as it should be, even if there’s sadness or joy that comes with it.”
Despite the current lack of communication, Porowski cherishes the memories he shared with Berk during their tenure on the show. “I support anything that he chooses to pursue. I did have some really wonderful years with him; no matter what happened or happens, we will always have these memories and these things that we experienced in the endless press junkets, where one of us is falling asleep from jet lag, and the other one would pick up the other’s slack… And so we always have those beautiful memories,” he explained.
Porowski emphasized that there is no ill-will between them, “Right now, there isn’t too much communication, but I don’t have any resentment or ill-will or anything like that.”
With Berk’s departure, Jeremiah Brent has stepped into the role of the team’s interior design expert. Despite the change, Brent has expressed a deep respect for Berk’s impact on the show. Although the two did not speak before Brent assumed the role, Berk has acknowledged Brent’s talent and the respect is mutual.
Brent's introduction to the group has been met with enthusiasm, and he continues to contribute positively to the team’s mission of transformation and empowerment.
