Rutger published: Zaya Wade Embraces Confidence and Happiness with Gender-Affirming Care

Zaya Wade, the remarkable 17-year-old transgender daughter of former NBA superstar Dwyane Wade and actress Gabrielle Union, opens up about her journey toward becoming her authentic self. Since embarking on her gender-affirming care journey, which includes starting estrogen, Zaya has discovered a new level of happiness and self-assurance.

In a candid conversation with a popular teen magazine, Zaya shares the profound impact the support from her parents has had on her well-being. Her parents, who have been vocal supporters of the LGBTQ+ community, provided the foundation for her to flourish. This support extends to Zaya's endeavors with Translatable, a nonprofit she co-founded with her father. The organization aims to empower LGBTQ+ youth and their families by providing essential resources and a supportive community.

Pursuing Personal Ambitions

Zaya's life has transformed significantly since she publicly came out as transgender at the age of 12. Her family has become outspoken advocates for trans rights, sharing their experiences to inspire others. Zaya has made strides in the fashion industry, walking the runway for Miu Miu and collaborating on projects with brands like Puma and Warby Parker. Her influence also extends to social media, where she connects with her followers and shares her journey.

Reflecting on her experiences, Zaya expresses an overwhelming sense of joy and contentment. "I've never been happier than how I am on estrogen," she declares. "I feel so perfect and confident—this is a new era for me, filled with self-assurance and excitement for what's to come." With a focus on personal growth and community empowerment, Zaya has big plans for the future.

Advocacy and Community Building

Through Translatable, Zaya and her father aim to create a safe and nurturing space not only for transgender individuals but for the entire queer community. The initiative has already garnered significant attention and support, and they are actively seeking collaborations with organizations that align with their mission.

Zaya is particularly proud of her father's role as an ally. She acknowledges the challenges he faced growing up in a traditional Black household in Chicago, a place not typically known for its acceptance of queer identities. Despite this, Dwyane Wade's unwavering support has been instrumental in their advocacy efforts, and Zaya hopes it will inspire others to embrace understanding and acceptance.

"I hope my father’s public support will encourage people to learn about queerness rather than judge it," Zaya shares. She fondly recalls watching the LGBTQ+-inclusive series Heartstopper on Netflix with him, noting that despite his intimidating presence, he's a gentle and caring supporter.

Looking to the Future

Zaya is currently exploring college options, seeking environments where she can freely express her Black and queer identities. She aims to find a community that not only accepts her but works together to strengthen the queer community nationwide.

As Zaya continues to navigate her journey, she remains a prominent figure on social media, using her platform to share her personal projects, fashion collaborations, and milestones. Her passion for fashion and beauty is evident in her words: "When my mascara is on and my eyebrows are done, I feel unstoppable. I’m at the top of the world," Zaya enthuses. "And the right lip gloss combo makes me feel like my true self. Makeup and hair are my heart and soul expressions, and now the world sees me for who I am."

Zaya Wade's story is one of courage, joy, and the relentless pursuit of authenticity. Her journey highlights the importance of support and community in the lives of LGBTQ+ individuals, and her achievements serve as an inspiration to many young people around the world.
