Over this past year, there's been a lot happening in terms with how LGBTQ+ veterans in Britain are being treated, thanks largely due efforts made by its Ministry Defense through its Financial Recognition Scheme (FRS). This program aims towards making amends those who faced discrimination under military's past ban on homosexuality. While substantial sums have already been distributed around, newly appointed Minister Veterans, Louise Sandher-Jones, wants more veterans come forward apply as new applicant numbers appear drop off.
Reaching Out To LGBTQ+ Veterans
"Our biggest challenge? Getting in touch with every veteran who qualifies," said Sandher-Jones. "We're trying so hard build connections within this community—many understandably hesitant when it comes Defence communications because past betrayal mistreatment. To truly restore trust, we've got make sure our outreach consistent wide-reaching; think traditional media partners like veteran groups, NHS collaboration even veteran employers."

Veterans eligible receive as much £70,000 (around $95,000) - so far scheme paid out over £32M (northwards $43M) using Discharged/Dismissed Payments (DD) along Impact Payments (IP).
Despite progress seen there have been struggles, criticism too particularly voiced by LGBTQ+ veteran group Fighting Pride over initial processing delays faced applicants. For many reopening painful memories only meant long waits little response.
Yet things are looking up now. May marked time Fighting Pride reported just handful claims processed paid while October under Sandher-Jones' leadership decisions made on 323 out 924 DD claims plus 147 from 956 IP claims. By November further uptick recorded as 548 out 952 DD decisions reached alongside 248 from 1,002 IP ones total 1,263 applications.

With transparency Sandher-Jones acknowledged hurdles faced FRS like gathering records dealing lengthy passage since ban's lift.
