RuPaul’s Drag Race has always been a show full of glitz, glam, and the unexpected. With each season, fans are treated to a whirlwind of charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent. However, as with any reality show, not everything makes it to the final cut. Recently, beloved Drag Race stars Trixie Mattel and Katya shared a fascinating, unseen slice of Drag Race history from season seven that never aired.
During a discussion on their podcast, The Bald and the Beautiful, Trixie and Katya reminisced about a particularly "bizarre" segment that was filmed but never included in the season’s airing. According to the duo, before the queens even stepped into the iconic Werk Room, each was whisked away to a studio for a surprise meeting and recording session with none other than RuPaul.
Katya recalled arriving in Los Angeles, ready to begin the grueling process of filming Drag Race. Instead of heading straight to the main studio, the queens were taken to a different location. "Fresh off the plane," she described, "we walk into a room, and who should stroll in wearing a massive ten-gallon hat? RuPaul himself!" The shock of seeing the queen of drag in such an intimate setting was just the beginning.
Trixie chimed in with her own impressions of the unexpected encounter. "You walk into this room, RuPaul is there, and he just sits next to you and asks you questions about your life," she explained. Despite the intimidating presence, Trixie felt validated by how much RuPaul knew about her background and audition. "Even though I was terrified, it made me feel very seen," she admitted.
The surprises didn’t end there. Katya revealed that part of this unaired session involved a recording studio where each queen was asked to sing. "I’d never been in a recording studio, and I’d never sung in my life," she confessed. The challenge intensified when RuPaul encouraged her to "find the rhythm" while attempting to perform a song related to Drag U. Katya described it as a "bizarre introduction" that was both thrilling and nerve-wracking.
Trixie supported Katya’s account, adding that she was tasked with singing "Geronimo." Despite the pressure and the unfamiliar setting, both queens found the experience unforgettable. Trixie recalled, "I can remember RuPaul in the booth with me, singing along. It was incredible and nerve-wracking at the same time."
For fans eager to consume more Drag Race content, there’s good news. While these behind-the-scenes gems from season seven may remain unaired, the Drag Race franchise continues to expand. The recent conclusion of All Stars 10 left many craving more, but upcoming seasons promise to deliver. Drag Race UK vs. the World’s third season is on the horizon, as well as the new Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale, which recently announced its inaugural cast.
And if that’s not enough, the All Stars 11 cast is already stirring excitement among fans. With so many new episodes and franchises in the works, the Drag Race universe shows no signs of slowing down.
As always, we encourage the community to share their thoughts and reactions. What do you think of this unaired segment from season seven? Would you have loved to see these interactions and recordings? Let us know in the comments below, and remember to keep the discussion respectful and inclusive.
