She became West Virginia's first transgender student-athlete at a state high school track and field championships. In her debut, Becky competed in Class AAA girls' discus, launching an impressive throw measuring 122 feet and 11 inches. Just 19 feet off from Cierra Groom's winning throw, who defended her Class AAA title, Becky showed everyone she had truly arrived.

Her chance came when a federal judge put a halt on West Virginia's "Save Women's Sports Act," a law aimed at barring transgender athletes from girls' sports.
