Rutger published: Trailblazing Trans Musician Samsara Inspires Students Across the UK
At just 21 years old, Samsara, a vibrant and gifted singer from Brisbane, has become a trailblazer as she embarks on a school tour across England. With her electrifying performances and personal stories, she's making history as a transgender artist and inspiring countless students along her journey.

Inspiring students with music and personal stories

Even though her own school days were not that long ago, Samsara has bravely returned, this time as both an entertainer and a storyteller. Her visits are a unique mix—a lively concert full, followed by an open-hearted conversation about her life. She shares what it was like coming out as gay, later transitioning, and she dives headfirst, tackling tough topics like bullying, mental health, and even how math can be a game-changer.

Building bridges in schools

Currently a student at King's College London, Samsara finds her interactions with students overwhelmingly positive. "The students I've met are genuinely curious and so kind," she says. When she asks if they've ever met a transgender person, only a few hands usually go up. Her response? A friendly, "Well, now you have," followed by a smile. She doesn't shy away from tough questions about her journey, though she makes sure teachers are available when discussions get deep. Her mantra? Live and let live. Reflecting on her own school experiences—from Brisbane, Singapore, and Hong Kong—Samsara admits they were challenging. "I didn't have many friends and struggled with grades," she remembers. But moving Hong Kong marked a turning point, where she transitioned and embraced her true self.

Adversity and hope: Samsara's journey

"In Hong Kong, it was surprising how people accepted me after I transitioned," Samsara recalls, given its conservative atmosphere. Through her messages at schools, she assures students that no matter what, they can survive school. "Your kindness can truly change someone's life," she tells students. Exclusion hurts, and reaching out—for friendships or help from a teacher—can open doors. And yes, even math, she says, can help you build skills that last a lifetime.

Tackling a complex environment

Samsara knows there are ongoing debates surrounding transgender topics in schools. In England, new rules could limit these discussions, sparking worry about backlash. She's aware but stands firm, prepared that controversy might come.

Making a difference

Despite challenges, Samsara stays committed. Her music, once just school musicals and poetry, now serves as a platform that amplifies her voice. Her recent track, 'Put 'Em Up!', addresses pressing issues around transgender rights in a powerful and relatable manner. "During school performances, I make sure my music fits," Samsara explains. "I want young people in my audience, especially those who are transgender, see me as someone they can relate." Her dedication shines through, even when touring takes a toll or stirs controversy. For Samsara, making a difference—even if it means reaching just one student—makes every effort count. "Teachers tell me my story offers hope," she shares. "If just two kids realize it okay and they can succeed, then it's all worth it." Samsara's new single "Put 'Em Up!" Is available now, and her school tour presses on, spreading messages resilience and acceptance across England.
