As New Year's Eve approached midnight, Angel Nunez wanted this New Year celebration with his partner, Chris Dillon, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on December 31st, 2019, private. However, Angel's surprise visit turned tragic. At age 50, Angel arrived just in time, eager and excited in anticipation during his short drive from Miami. He arrived just in time before New Year's Day.
The unexpected visit was filled with love and tenderness. Chris recalled Angel's touching arrival with a simple yet powerful message: "I didn't want you spending New Year's Eve by yourself." His words demonstrated deep affection. What was meant as a night celebrating tragically turned out different and unforgettable.
Fireworks filled with love. As they reached midnight, Angel and Chris's last words were, "I grabbed his head, and he grabbed mine," Chris recounted. "Together, we had a beautiful kiss." As they stood on their patio against each other and anticipated a brighter future together, fireworks filled with love. Experiencing Angel's pain, Chris could only say, "I did not think he was dead." Chris shared tearfully in an interview with 6 South Florida News. He desperately tried everything possible, hoping somehow Angel would survive his injuries from a bullet that pierced his stomach.
The Heartbreaking Reality
Chris suspects that this bullet came from across Middle River at Wilton Manor's residence on New Year's Eve night.
"My God, you're killing somebody," Chris said.
Angel will be remembered.
As compassionate and friendly with hardworking character—his community misses him dearly—a senseless loss. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has requested information if anyone witnessed anything unusual that night.
Angel's memory will be honored by advocating safer communities where negligence and violence are intolerable.
