Rutger published: The White Lotus Actress Reveals Why She Declined Drag Race UK Invitation

The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood recently shared an intriguing story about an opportunity she had to be a guest judge on the beloved television show RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, a chance that she, unfortunately, had to pass on.

Aimee Lou Wood, who has garnered a devoted fanbase through her roles in the critically acclaimed series Sex Education and the recently popular The White Lotus, was approached by the producers of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK to join as a guest judge in the 2023 season. This invitation was a dream come true for Wood, who has often expressed her love for the show and her desire to participate in it. However, circumstances led her to decline the offer.

The timing of the invitation coincided with Wood's commitment to another major project – her role in the celebrated West End production of Cabaret. Wood was cast as the iconic character Sally Bowles, a role she took on with enthusiasm and dedication. Her involvement in this eight-time Tony Award-winning musical, which ran from February to May 2023, ultimately led to her decision to forgo the Drag Race UK guest judging opportunity.

In a conversation with media outlets, Wood expressed her disappointment in missing the chance to be on Drag Race UK. With a hint of regret, she explained, "Oh my God. Can I tell you something? There are only a few things in my life that I really wanted to do: be in The White Lotus, be a judge on Drag Race, and perform in Cabaret. I got Cabaret… I was offered to do UK Drag Race and I missed it because I was rehearsing for Cabaret, so I need to get my opportunity again. I have to get it again."

Wood did not specify which season she was supposed to join as a guest judge, but since her rehearsals for Cabaret took place in early 2023, it is likely she was meant to appear on either the fifth season of Drag Race UK or the anticipated RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World season two.

Wood has been vocal about her aspirations to be on RuPaul’s Drag Race. In an earlier interview, she revealed that being a guest judge was one of her key ambitions, alongside her successful participation in Cabaret. “I’m an Aquarius, I don’t set goals in my life. I just go with it. But the only two things I’ve ever said I wanted were to be a guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race and play Sally Bowles in Cabaret,” she said.

Adding her recent role in The White Lotus to that list, Wood is now closer to achieving her top career goals. She plays the character Chelsea, a bubbly Brit, in the third season of Mike White’s acclaimed black comedy series. Her performance has already made her one of the standout favorites among fans.

With her rising popularity and unique charm, fans of both The White Lotus and RuPaul’s Drag Race eagerly await the potential for Wood to grace the stage of Drag Race UK in the near future. RuPaul and Michelle Visage, take note!

The third season of The White Lotus airs every Sunday in the US on HBO and on Mondays on Sky Atlantic and the streaming service NOW in the UK. Make sure to catch Aimee Lou Wood's brilliant portrayal in this thrilling series.
