In a shocking incident that sheds light on online dangers, eight teenagers in Malta have been convicted in a hate-driven assault against an 18-year-old man. This attack, facilitated by a popular dating app, highlights ongoing violence risks faced by LGBTQ+ individuals.

The case, dating back March 30th, involved teens between 15 and 17 who used a dating app as a trap, leading their victim astray. This group, seven guys and a girl, confessed guilty on charges like aggravated theft, serious bodily harm, and illegal detention. Court details reveal how these teens lured their victim with promises, only leading him instead towards an old hotel near Mellieħa's Red Tower. It was there he was viciously attacked, left injured, and deprived even his phone. Alone and traumatized, he faced unimaginable fear.
The crime's premeditated nature was clear—using a dating app as a weapon. After admitting their guilt, these teens were given bail under tight conditions: frequent check-ins and a nightly curfew.
