Here we are again, another exciting MLB season about ready hit full swing. And, with it, comes Pride Month—a time that many look forward too, as it's all about celebrating and supporting our LGBTQ+ friends and family. But, as much as it's a celebration, it's also a reminder that there's still a lot work left in advocating and supporting this community.
Looking ahead at 2025, we can't help but cross our fingers and hope this Pride Month in baseball unfolds without a glitch. Wouldn't it be great if everything went off without controversy this year? We're basically dreaming that this time, our "number-of-years-since-a-Pride-event-went-smoothly" counter will finally tick up from zero. Sounds simple, but given what's happened recently, maybe it's not.
It's not been easy these past few years. Remember 2022? Some Rays players made headlines by taking off Pride logos from their jerseys. Then, in 2023, we watched as a storm brewed up when Dodgers wanted honor Sisters Perpetual Indulgence. Just when we thought it couldn't get any rockier, an Orioles player made headlines with a less-than-friendly social media post toward Pride celebrations. This year, though, we're just hoping we can make it through without more negativity.
Despite all this, let's not lose sight on how incredible Pride Nights can be at ballpark. They're supposed bring fun and energy, focusing on diversity and inclusion we all need a bit more. The real challenge? Turning those “almost perfect” nights, in ones that actually are. Think about Francisco Lindor, who's all about supporting LGBTQ causes and gay marriage. His open attitude shows that, bit by bit, we're moving forward in a good direction. Plus, he recently shared a sweet moment attending a Shakira concert with his daughter. It's those human, warm moments that echo what Pride's all about.
Baseball uniforms have their iconic look, but a touch flair never hurt anyone. Just look Guardian's Carlos Santana, who balances style with his impressive athletic dedication. You can tell he hits gym hard, and that dedication makes watching him play even more thrilling. During Pride Month, let celebrate all ways baseball offers diversity and inclusivity. From thrilling games, personal stories players like Lindor and Santana, there's so much soak up and enjoy.
As we get ready welcome this new season, let's keep spirit Pride alive, crossing our fingers that all events run smoothly, celebrating love and acceptance as they should.
