Stonewall Sports DC has some big news that's about more than just sports—it's about bringing people together in a more meaningful and efficient manner. They're rolling out a new citywide organizational model designed not only improve how they run things but also expand what they offer LGBTQIA+ athletes in Washington, D.C. This move marks a major step forward in their mission: empowering LGBTQIA+ folks through sports and recreation.

Preserving each sport's unique culture

In this new setup, every sport under Stonewall Sports DC will keep its own volunteer leadership team. Why? Because each sport has its own vibe, and they want it that it stays that weay. At at same time, a central board will step in, handling big-picture stuff like strategic planning, finances, and community partnerships. It's all about making sure everything runs smoothly across all activities, meeting their goals while keeping quality consistent. "Our leagues have thrived thanks our dedicated volunteers and enthusiastic players," said Stu Wales, President at Stonewall Sports DC. "With this citywide model, we can hold onto each sport's unique feel while ensuring high-quality experiences all over DC."

Boosting programs and community connections

This new framework isn't just about managing better; it opens doors. Stonewall Sports DC will now be able add new sports and activities that speak more people. This means more inclusive spaces, welcoming LGBTQIA+ athletes and allies throughout DC. It's a testament their dedication creating an environment where everyone feels they belong. Virginie Adams, Vice President Programs, can't wait see how this growth plays out: "As we expand, we can introduce new sports and activities that really connect with our community, reaching more people and crafting even more inclusive spaces across DC."

Streamlining sponsorships and fundraising

One major perk this new model brings? Streamlined sponsorships and fundraising. By centralizing these efforts, Stonewall Sports DC aims lock in larger partnerships, cut out excess, and pump more resources back their leagues and community programs. This efficient strategy isn't just about making life easier—it's about maximizing their impact. "Centralizing our sponsorships and fundraising primes us form larger, more meaningful partnerships," explained Anthony Ortman, Director Sponsorships. "This lets us cut overlap and direct more resources straight back our leagues and initiatives."

To kick off this revamped structure and toast their 15th anniversary, Stonewall Sports DC has planned a gala on October 18th at JW Marriott.
