Rutger published: Spotlight on Selma Blair and Her Service Dog Scout at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

At this year's Vanity Fair Oscar Party in 2025, Selma Blair did more than just dazzle with her own star power—she brought along her equally captivating service dog, Scout. As they walked down that famous red carpet, it was clear Blair's resilience and her special bond with Scout drew quite a bit more than a polite glance from all who were watching.

Blair, whom many remember fondly from ‘90s favorites like "Cruel Intentions," wasn't just accompanied by Scout as a glamorous date. Scout plays a vital role in Blair's life as she continues her journey with multiple sclerosis (MS), a journey she embarked on after being diagnosed in 2018.

Selma Blair's courageous journey with multiple sclerosis

In 2018, Selma Blair took a brave step forward by publicly acknowledging her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis, a chronic illness that impacts everything from mobility and balance, down occasionally, even, affecting vision. Her doctors had advised her against telling anyone, worried about misconceptions and negative career impacts. But Blair chose transparency, sharing her truth and inspiring countless others who face similar struggles.

In her memoir "Mean Baby," Blair writes, "My doctors urged me not go public," as they were concerned about misunderstandings. When she attended that Vanity Fair Oscars party in 2019, using a mobility aid, she received overwhelming support. It was a defining moment that showcased her strength amidst adversity.

Scout: more than a service dog

Scout officially joined Blair's life in December 2021 after more than a year and a half in training. Thanks in part due then, certainly, now, with Courtney and her fantastic team at a specialized service dog organization, Scout assists Blair with mobility and other challenges that come with managing MS.

Blair couldn't contain her excitement on social media, posting, “It has been a year and a half in making, but my new partner, Scout, and I graduated! We're officially a service dog team." At that 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Scout wasn't just an adorable companion; he symbolized hope and resilience, proving how powerful companionship can be when facing tough health battles.

Scout steals show among celebrities

The Oscars after-party was packed with stars like Laverne Cox, Chrissy Teigen, Patricia Clarkson, and designer Zac Posen, all eager, interested in meeting Scout. The scene was a heartwarming one, filled with celebrities coming together not only celebrate film's biggest night but also this remarkable pup.

Selma Blair later shared her joy on Instagram, commemorating night with a heartfelt post, “Over 25 years celebrating Oscars @vanityfair. I loved tonight especially. Scout's solid date.”

Embracing a new normal with optimism

By 2021, Selma Blair reached an extraordinary milestone: remission. No new lesions have formed. As she lives her "new normal," she confidently says she continues doing great, finding peace and purpose every step along this remarkable journey.

Blair's story keeps inspiring many. She shows MS might be challenging, but it doesn't define her. With Scout by her side, Blair embraces life's ups, downs, celebrating personal, professional milestones strength grace.
