At 58, she's opened up about identifying as non-binary—a realization she'd known in her heart but only now feels empowered enough express fully.

During a candid chat with Kaye Adams on her podcast, *How To Be 60*, Shobna unraveled her path towards understanding her gender identity. Looking back on her childhood, she admits that she didn't have a label back then. “Now, I'm just comfortable being me,” she said. “They call it non-binary now, so I guess that fits.”

She points out how younger generations have played a big part in helping her find those words. Even without them as a kid, she always sensed who she truly was. “I've learned what it looks like as a word because I've always known what it feels like,” she shared.

Shobna uses both she and they pronouns, highlighting how her family has always accepted her fluid identity. They've embraced both her “extremely feminine” and “extremely masculine” sides. “I never had words growing up,” she muses, “but my family saw me as just me.”

On that pivotal podcast episode, she also recounts a powerful encounter with a non-binary sound engineer. “They explained what non-binary meant, and that was my lightbulb moment,” Shobna said. “It was like they gave me a word I'd felt all along.”

Now, Shobna doesn't hold back in expressing this integral part herself. “I've accepted who I am a long time ago, but now it feels amazing actually say it out loud,” she announced. With love and support from those around her, she confidently lives her truth without having justify it.
