Dear drag fans, the wait is over! The first ten minutes of RuPaul's Drag Race season 17 are now available for your viewing pleasure, and let's just say it starts with a wild and wacky twist.
RuPaul returns to the spotlight with the seventeenth season of her iconic Drag Race series, and she’s not holding back this year. The season kicks off with a bang – or perhaps a comedic pie to the face.
Unlike previous seasons, this year's competition commences with an unexpected twist. Our 14 fabulous drag queens are whisked away to a secret location via van, thrust into the hilarious and chaotic world of 'Squirrel Games.'
Drawing inspiration from Netflix's hit survival drama Squid Game, the 'Squirrel Games' challenge has the queens, along with some beloved veteran contestants, participating in a humorous rendition of "Ru Light, Green Light." This challenge involves sashaying across the room to the beat of RuPaul’s hit song "Adrenaline," with the queens having to freeze in place whenever the music stops.
As always, Drag Race revels in its playful absurdity. The menacing doll from Squid Game is replaced by none other than season five’s infamous Lil’ Poundcake, who commands the game with her signature sass.
The stakes are high and the pies are flying! Contestants must dodge the gaze of Lil’ Poundcake, or face being hilariously eliminated with a creamy pie to the face.
Throughout the challenge, several familiar faces from the Drag Race universe make their appearance, including past winners Angeria Paris VanMichaels, Trinity The Tuck, and Kylie Sonique Love. Fan favorites like Jaymes Mansfield and Kerri Colby also join the fray, only to end up with a face full of cream courtesy of Lil’ Poundcake.
In a fitting twist of fate, it is none other than season one’s first eliminated queen, Victoria PorkChop Parker, who becomes the first to be pied, earning her the honorary title of the game's "Pork Pie."
It seems the new cohort of queens is ready for the challenge, as they manage to evade elimination and secure their spots in the main competition of season 17.
After the chaotic fun of the 'Squirrel Games', the teaser introduces us to the first six queens of the season: Arrietty, Jewels Sparkles, Joella, Kori King, Lexi Love, and Lydia B Kollins. As they enter the iconic Werk Room, anticipation for the new season reaches new heights.
Online, the Drag Race community has exploded with excitement over this instantly iconic challenge. Memes are flooding social media, with fans dubbing it "absolute comedy gold."
One fan enthusiastically declared, "RuPaul's Drag Race doing its own version of Squid Game is absolutely hilarious!"
Another fan wrote, "OH RUPAUL SAID HE’S GETTING HIS EMMY BACK," referring to the show's previous Emmy nominations. Yet another chimed in, "Those were hands down my favorite first four minutes of any episode of Drag Race ever."
With the premiere episode airing on January 3rd at 8 PM ET/PT on MTV, fans are eagerly awaiting what surprises the rest of season 17 holds. The season’s first guest judge, the sensational Katy Perry, is sure to bring her own flair to the show.
For international fans, RuPaul’s Drag Race season 17 will be available for streaming on WOW Presents Plus, ensuring the global audience can enjoy every moment of this drag-tastic season.
