Rutger published: RuPaul’s Drag Race Brings High Drama to the Stage in a New Oz-inspired Rusical

The spotlight is ready to shine on the latest episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17, featuring a thrilling Rusical that's sure to captivate audiences with its intense drama and captivating performances.

In a sneak peek of episode eight, tensions run high as the ten remaining queens engage in two heated confrontations within just five minutes. The episode kicks off with the queens returning to the Werk Room, still reeling from the unexpected elimination of Crystal Envy after last week's iconic Snatch Game challenge. Fan-favorite Suzie Toot voices her frustration over not excelling in the competition.

As emotions from the previous week linger, RuPaul enters to announce the eagerly awaited Rusical challenge. This season's theme, "The Wicked Wiz of Oz," is a spectacular fusion of three beloved musicals: The Wizard of Oz, The Wiz, and Wicked. The queens are tasked with portraying characters from these queer classics as they audition for roles in the Rusical, sharing their backstories through music and song.

As expected, casting discussions become a battlefield. Suzie Toot, Acacia Forget, and Sam Star all express interest in the role of Kansas Dorothy. Sam eventually opts for a different role, leaving Suzie and Acacia to battle it out. Suzie argues that Acacia's musical performance in episode two, which landed her in the bottom two, lacked the energy needed for Kansas Dorothy. "All she is doing is putting me down, and that is really annoying me," Acacia confesses, refusing Suzie's suggestion to take on the Green Witch role instead.

Ultimately, Acacia is cast as Kansas Dorothy. Suzie, resigned to her role, mutters, "I’m the Green Witch. Have fun, Acacia," which sparks a heated exchange between the two.

But the drama doesn’t stop there. A second clash erupts between Jewels Sparkles and Kori King, both vying for the role of The Good Witch. Kori stakes her claim by highlighting her physical presence, something she feels Jewels lacks. "RuPaul has complimented my physique. You don’t have that," Kori asserts, triggering an intense back-and-forth that escalates quickly.

Jewels counters by citing her past success in comedy challenges, suggesting they settle the dispute with a game of Rock Paper Scissors, which Kori refuses. The argument reaches a boiling point with personal jabs exchanged, but is finally resolved through a vote. Jewels secures the role of The Good Witch, while Kori becomes a flying monkey.

As the queens prepare to bring their characters to life on stage, viewers are left wondering how these intense casting showdowns will translate under the bright lights of the Rusical performance. Will the queens who fought hardest for their roles deliver standout performances, or will the drama off stage overshadow their time in the spotlight?

Don't miss a moment of the action as RuPaul’s Drag Race airs every Friday on MTV in the US and on WOW Presents Plus internationally. Let us know your thoughts on this episode in the comments below, and remember to keep the discussion respectful.
