In a disturbing turn, eleven teenage boys from around Chicago have been charged with serious felony offenses after they attacked two gay men. At about 9:45 p.m., a 41-year-old man was lured and then ambushed in a parking lot, having arranged a meetup through a dating app. As he arrived, a group attacked him, both verbally and physically, even damaging his car. He managed a getaway but was chased down some distance by these teens.
Just ten minutes after, police rushed in response again. A 23-year-old man met a similar fate a mile from that first attack. After organizing a meetup via a dating app, he was brutally assaulted. While he did flee by car, he soon realized his tires had been slashed. Taking shelter with a nearby resident who called 911, he was later treated at a hospital with non-threatening injuries.
The Mount Prospect Police Department dove deep, examining video footage and piecing together evidence. They managed identifying eleven juveniles tied up in these attacks. Now those teens face a slew charges, including aggravated battery, criminal property damage, and mob action. One even faces a hate crime charge, accused using racial and derogatory slurs during one assault.
All involved turned themselves in and have been arrested between November 11 and November 20, 2024. Police Chief Michael Eterno underscored seriousness this matter, urging parents sit down with their kids about dangers harmful social media trends.
