The search and a sorrowful discovery Lia was last seen on campus on October 17. When her father realized she was missing two days later, concern spread quickly. The Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team, alongside many caring students, joined forces in a thorough search effort. However, on October 23, hopes were shattered when Lia's body was found in a field by The Knoll, Middlebury's organic farm. Her death was ruled a suicide by medical examiners, leaving an aching void in everyone's hearts.

She hailed from Woodside, California, and attended Sacred Heart Preparatory School. She dove on our team, joined our chess and Japanese clubs, and ardently championed transgender rights. Her academic brilliance enriched us all, and she'll forever be treasured within our Middlebury family.
