Ice Spice, known best possibly, not just by her track “Think u dope (Flatulence),” threw a curveball with her critique. "I've heard you're a legendary icon," she began, "but tonight, I don't think you showed it—you seemed shy." The internet lit up with mixed reactions—some shocked, others amused.
Phoenix claps back
On May 10, Phoenix took it online, thanking everyone who had her back. "Thanks so much, everyone, about that Ice Spice comment!" she posted. With 25 years under her belt, Phoenix underscored what truly makes her an icon in drag. “My 25 years and all I've done? That's why I'm an ICON, not a few minutes on TV," she stated boldly.
She didn't hold back on her view about Ice Spice's fame either, saying, "I'm really okay not getting ‘icon' points from someone whose ‘notoriety' comes from one song about, well, bathroom humor...”
Looking ahead: Phoenix moves on
Despite all this buzz, Phoenix wants everyone moving on from this blip. In a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, she opened up about it all. She hasn't reached out directly yet, explaining, "I thought about it, but I wouldn't even know what I'd say. It just wasn't a big deal. I'm shocked it blew up like this. It was shade, just light-hearted."
She reflected, "Some folks laughed, others didn't, and if I knew it'd blow up, I'd have skipped it. Drag Race was amazing, and I don't want this overshadowing that.” She apologized, too: "It was a misstep. We throw shade, sure...but this got outta hand, and I'm sorry. Really."
