Rutger published: Pastor Resigns After Alleged Attempt to Meet a Minor on Hookup App

In an unexpected and unsettling turn, Neal Creecy, a 46-year-old pastor from Las Vegas, Nevada, has stepped down from his role at Redemption Church after his recent arrest. Creecy was taken in by police, believing he was meeting a 14-year-old boy through a gay dating app. In reality, he was caught in a sting operation by an undercover police officer.

The arrest went down on August 7 as part a sting operation by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department aimed at catching suspected child predators. Creecy was one among eight men apprehended during this two-week operation. According reports, he acknowledged sending explicit messages and set up a meeting with someone he thought was a teenager. In Nevada, age consent 16.

The fall from grace

W. Don Seaborg, who heads pastoral support at Redemption Church, confirmed Creecy's resignation. "Right after he got out jail, within an hour or two, he reached out on a group message, confessing what happened. He offered his resignation when we met later that morning, and we had no choice but accept it," Seaborg said local news station KLAS-TV. Creecy was a well-known figure in church community, founding Redemption Church in 2018 and serving in religious capacities over three decades.

After posting $10,000 bail, Creecy was released and now has a court date set September 2. This case has rattled local community, stirring up concerns about trust and ethics in religious circles.
