Orlando to Create Permanent Pulse Nightclub Memorial After Demolition

Orlando has officially set plans in motion that will see Pulse Nightclub transformed from a site marked by tragedy in 2016, when 49 lives were tragically lost,  to a memorial that honors their memory and legacy. This venue meant a lot, being a significant LGBTQ+ gathering spot, and its transformation promises a heartfelt tribute.

City officials shared this significant update earlier this week, revealing that groundwork will kick off soon. The club, which has been a makeshift memorial over these past several years, now stands behind construction fencing as preparations begin.

The Pulse Nightclub shooting on June 12, 2016, was a devastating event. Happening during a "Latin Night," it left an indelible mark, urging unity and resilience within and beyond Orlando's LGBTQ+ community. The Pulse Memorial Advisory Committee knows how vital community input remains. On March 5, they'll host a public meeting revealing new memorial designs. Details on how locals and those afar can join will follow, ensuring everyone has a say.

While demolition closes down most access, they'll keep a small area open so people can still visit, pay tribute, and lay flowers, maintaining that important connection.

The permanent memorial's construction will likely start in early fall 2026, wrapping up by late 2027. This timeline reflects Orlando's dedication towards a meaningful, enduring tribute.
