Nyongbella, a talented and bold performer, has made her way into the spotlight as one of the contestants on the seventh season of Drag Race UK. Her journey, however, is anything but ordinary. Before securing her spot on season seven, Nyongbella had a surprising history with the show. She revealed that she sent in her first application for season four, despite never having performed in drag before. At that time, she had only just begun to experiment with makeup and was far from having a fully developed drag persona.

During a media event prior to the launch of Drag Race UK season seven, Nyongbella shared her experiences candidly. The Cameroonian queen, now based in London, explained her initial foray into the world of drag and how it led her to apply for a place on the beloved show. "I saw the audition tapes that others were making, and I thought, ‘I could do that too,’" she recalled with a laugh.

When pressed about her initial attempt to join the cast for season four, Nyongbella admitted, "Technically, it wasn’t my first attempt because I did apply for season four, but I hadn’t actually started performing in drag. I was just getting started with makeup." Her candidness and humor shone through as she reflected on the courage it took to send in that first audition tape.

Nyongbella’s family played a pivotal role in her decision to pursue Drag Race UK. She described a heartfelt conversation with them, which gave her the confidence to follow her dreams. "I had a little heart-to-heart with my family, and then a casting call for the show came out the next day. It felt like a sign," she shared. Despite not having any drag outfits or a developed persona at the time, she put together an audition tape featuring sketches of the looks she envisioned wearing on the runway. "I just talked about who I am and what I wanted to bring to the show," Nyongbella said with a smile.

Ultimately, her season four application was unsuccessful, but it didn’t deter her. Instead, it fueled her passion and drive to hone her skills and return stronger. Her perseverance and growth were recognized when she was finally cast for season seven, ready to showcase her talents and creativity.

Nyongbella's story isn’t unique in the Drag Race UK community, as other queens have also faced unique challenges on their journey to the show. Bonnie Ann Clyde, another contestant on season seven, shared a similar saga. Although she had technically applied for every season, her efforts were complicated by the fact that she wasn’t living in the UK until recently. "I’ve actually applied for every single season, but I was never in the UK until season seven," she explained. Her persistence paid off, as this was the first time her audition was valid due to her relocation to Manchester.

Another queen, Paige Three, took a bold approach when applying for season seven. Having applied five times without success, she decided to give the show an ultimatum. "I told them in my audition tape, ‘If you don’t put me on this season, we’re done here,’" Paige recounted humorously. Her determination finally paid off as she joined the cast, eager to prove herself.

This season of Drag Race UK features 12 talented queens vying for the title of the UK’s Next Drag Superstar. Alongside Nyongbella, Bonnie Ann Clyde, and Paige Three are Catrin Feelings, Tayris Mongardi, Sally TM, Silllexa Diction, Pasty, Elle Vosque, Viola, Chai T Grande, and Bones.
