Rutger published: New Zealand’s First Female Firefighters’ Calendar Sparks Global Excitement

Introducing the Wāhine Toa Firefighter Calendar 2026

New Zealand has released its first all-female professional firefighter calendar, and it’s not just a picturesque date reminder—it’s a powerful initiative supporting Breast Cancer Cure. Featuring 13 courageous women from nine stations across three cities, the Wāhine Toa Firefighter Calendar 2026 not only showcases these skilled firefighters but also aims to raise significant funds for breast cancer research, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

The idea for the calendar was born during a shift conversation between co-organisers Nicole Koch and Zoe Feau. Reflecting on the long-standing tradition of male firefighter calendars, they asked, "Why isn’t there a women’s one?" Their solution was straightforward: "Let’s make one ourselves." The enthusiasm for the project quickly gained momentum, and what started as a simple idea rapidly transformed into a national campaign.

Behind the Scenes: A Cause Close to Heart

Koch and Feau emphasized the importance of choosing a cause that resonates deeply with women. "Raising money for a breast cancer charity was a natural choice," said Feau. Several participants have personal connections to the cause, making the effort all the more meaningful. The calendar not only highlights the strength and dedication of these female firefighters but also unites them in a mission to support a cause that affects so many lives.

The response has been phenomenal, with international support pouring in. An Instagram account dedicated to the calendar has quickly gained over 70,000 followers, and the initial announcement video has garnered more than 35,000 likes. "We’ve been receiving messages from around the globe," Koch revealed, "The excitement is overwhelming, and people are eager to purchase the calendar."

A Sellout Success and a Second Chance

On October 29th, the team joyfully announced that the calendar had sold out, raising an impressive $100,000 for Breast Cancer Cure in just 26 hours. "We did it. You did it," read the celebratory post, thanking supporters for their "epic support." The overwhelming demand caught the organizers by surprise, but they were prepared with a Plan B. Preorders for a second print run are now open and will close on November 10th, ensuring that everyone interested can get their hands on a copy.

The calendar has struck a chord with many, especially within the sapphic community, who are thrilled to see a group of accomplished women celebrated in such a way. Comments on social media reflect this excitement, with many humorously suggesting they wouldn't mind waiting for these firefighters in an emergency.

Global Impact and Community Support

The success of the Wāhine Toa Firefighter Calendar is a testament to the power of community and the global reach of a meaningful cause. While initially intended to raise funds, the calendar has also sparked a broader conversation about representation and empowerment. For many, it offers a fresh perspective on what it means to be a firefighter and celebrates the diversity and strength of women in this traditionally male-dominated field.

As the calendar continues to gain traction, the organizers remain committed to their mission. "Same fire. Same cause. Same unstoppable community," they proclaim, reinforcing their dedication to making a difference.

Whether you're purchasing the calendar to support breast cancer research or simply to admire the incredible women featured, one thing is clear: the Wāhine Toa Firefighter Calendar is an initiative that has captured hearts and inspired change worldwide.
