Rutger published: New LGBTQ+ Inclusive Senior Living Community Opens Near Dupont Circle

An exciting new option for inclusive senior living is coming to Washington, D.C., with the opening of an upscale senior and assisted living apartment complex just blocks away from Dupont Circle. Scheduled for a grand opening on February 12, the new facility, named Inspir Embassy Row, is proud to announce its status as an "LGBTQ+ friendly" community.

Located at 2100 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., Inspir Embassy Row has been recognized as a SAGECare Platinum Credentialed Provider. This prestigious certification comes from SAGE, a prominent LGBTQ advocacy group that focuses on providing support and training for working with LGBTQ seniors.

The certification process required at least 80% of Inspir’s staff, both management and non-management, to undergo extensive training in LGBTQ+ aging cultural competency. The training covered essential topics, such as historical and contemporary issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community, appropriate usage of sexual orientation and gender identity terminology, and strategies to address the unique challenges confronted by LGBTQ+ seniors.

"At Inspir Embassy Row, we believe in creating an inclusive environment that celebrates the diversity of all our residents," said Tim Cox, the general manager of Inspir Embassy Row. Cox, who is openly gay and lives nearby with his husband, emphasizes the community’s commitment to respecting and honoring the identities and experiences of all residents, particularly those in the LGBTQ+ community.

The facility is set to offer 174 apartments, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom options. Residents have already expressed interest, with about 45 apartments accounted for, including several LGBTQ residents preparing to move in after the opening ceremony. Residents will begin settling into their new homes starting February 18.

Beyond living accommodations, the community provides various levels of care, including assisted living and memory care. A dedicated medical team, including a doctor and nurse practitioner, will be available to residents. While each apartment is equipped with a small kitchen, residents can enjoy three meals a day in the large dining room located on the first floor.

The amenities at Inspir Embassy Row extend beyond basic needs, offering residents a rich social environment with plenty of activities and events. Common areas are designed for entertainment, featuring spaces for movie showings and a grand piano for live performances. Residents can expect a vibrant atmosphere with daily music and opportunities to engage in cultural and educational activities.

"We are setting a new standard for inclusive senior living in Washington, D.C.," Cox added. The SAGECare certification is just the beginning of Inspir’s journey to provide a welcoming home where every resident feels valued and free to be themselves.

However, the upscale nature of the facility does come with a cost. Monthly rental prices begin at $8,100 for a studio apartment, with one-bedroom apartments ranging from $11,500 to $15,000 and two-bedroom options at $18,500. While these prices may be prohibitive for some, long-term care insurance may cover some costs.

Cox explains that Inspir Embassy Row offers more than just a place to live. "Staying in one’s own home often leads to isolation and loneliness, with limited activities and social interaction," he said. Inspir provides a community setting where residents can enjoy companionship and diverse activities such as trips to the Kennedy Center, author talks, and international presentations from visiting ambassadors.

To further foster community ties and support, Inspir Embassy Row plans to offer LGBTQ+ specific activities, events, and support groups. Collaborations with local LGBTQ+ organizations will also be part of the community's efforts to engage residents and provide enriching experiences.

With its prime location near Dupont Circle and a commitment to inclusivity and diversity, Inspir Embassy Row is poised to become a leading example of LGBTQ-friendly senior living. This initiative represents not only a dedication to quality care but also a celebration of the rich tapestry of experiences and identities that define the LGBTQ+ community.
