Rutger published: New Judge Joins RuPaul's Drag Race Panel, Shaking Up the Line-Up After a Decade

Exciting changes are coming to RuPaul’s Drag Race as the show welcomes a new member to its judging panel. In a move that has thrilled fans and contestants alike, Law Roach has been appointed as a permanent rotating judge on the beloved competition series.

Law Roach, a celebrated celebrity stylist renowned for his work with stars like Zendaya, has long expressed his desire to bring his expertise to the Drag Race judging table. After making his debut as a guest judge during season 16, Roach’s wish has finally come true as he joins the panel as a permanent fixture.

In a recent interview, Roach shared his excitement about the new role, stating, "I am not the special guest judge, I am sitting next to Ru. Hunter Schafer is the special guest judge this episode." Although details about the exact number of episodes he will appear in are still under wraps, Roach hinted, “We all know what that third seat represents.”

This new position comes with some changes for Roach, as he will miss the opportunity to participate in the backstage fun on Untucked. "When you’re rotating, you don’t get to do that any more," he explained. "I think it was kind of shocking for the queens to come out and see me in that third seat. It felt good to sit next to Mama Ru."

The Drag Race judging panel, which includes RuPaul and Michelle Visage, has remained largely unchanged for almost a decade. Carson Kressley and Ross Matthews joined as judges during season seven in 2015, and they have been mainstays ever since. Ts Madison came onboard as a rotating judge in season 15, marking the first significant change in the panel in years.

Law Roach’s addition signifies an exciting new era for RuPaul’s Drag Race, offering his unique perspective and expertise in fashion and celebrity styling. Fans of the show have eagerly anticipated this fresh dynamic, and Roach’s presence is expected to bring new insights and critique to the runway.

Before joining Drag Race, Roach was a judge on America’s Next Top Model and the ballroom competition series Legendary. His extensive background in the fashion industry, particularly his celebrated collaborations with Zendaya, makes him a valuable addition to the judging team.

In March 2023, Roach made headlines when he announced his decision to step back from the high-pressure world of celebrity styling. Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Roach described feeling "empty" after years of relentless demands and personal hardships, including family losses.

Despite stepping back, Roach continues to work closely with Zendaya, styling her stunning red-carpet looks and supporting her career. His work with the Challengers star remains a testament to his talent and dedication to the craft.

With his new role on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Law Roach is poised to influence a new generation of drag performers, sharing his wealth of knowledge and passion for fashion. The show, known for its vibrant celebration of diversity and creativity, is the perfect stage for Roach to showcase his talents and inspire future drag superstars.

As fans eagerly await the new season, the addition of Law Roach to the judging panel promises exciting developments and memorable moments. Whether critiquing runway looks or offering guidance to contestants, Roach’s influence will undoubtedly enhance the show’s legacy.
