Rutger published: More Republicans May Distance Themselves from Trump, Massie Warns

In a major shift on Capitol Hill, Congressman Thomas Massie from Kentucky has sent a strong message out toward former President Donald Trump and his camp. With Republican primaries heating up as spring rolls around, Massie sees a trend coming: more Republicans in Congress starting, quietly, but surely, distancing themselves from Trump. This could really shake things up in politics.

Massie, one among a small group who stood up against Trump's proposed tariffs, hasn't held back his thoughts. In a chat with Politico, he said, “On any given day, I would just need one or two co-conspirators. I think you're going...see more defections.” Sounds like he might be onto something, doesn't it? This feeling seems shared by others in his party who are bracing themselves as primary elections loom.

The changing face in Congress

Right now, Congress has 218 Republicans, 214 Democrats, with three seats hanging in balance. It creates a bit...tightrope situation...especially...House Speaker Mike Johnson. He's in a spot where he can't afford...lose even...Republican vote...dramatic...politics...CNN mentioned.

Massie touched on...precariousness, saying, “The margin...razor-th...so...one or two...own co-conspirators...get something done. And what's happening...retirement caucus...growing, and primary days...coming up...going...past March...May, which has...chunk...Republican primaries, I think you're going...see...defections.” It sounds like some people might be reaching their tipping points.

Politics...getting...intense

Things haven't exactly been rosy between Massie and Trump. Just recently...National Prayer Breakfast, Trump called...Massie...“moron.” Talk about harsh words! Trump has even backed Ed Gallrein, who's running against Massie. It seems...former president isn't...fan...Massie's outspoken nature and his stand against last year's budget proposal.

Despite this drama...public eye, Massie insists he has...support behind closed doors...Republican peers. He shared, “Quietly and privately...telling me...agree...I think...fatigue...among GOP congressmembers...I call...rubber stamp fatigue. People who...elected...Congress, almost none...got here...mistake...so you have competent, driven individuals...some...military officers—...are being told...stand down, bite...tongue, sit...hands, do what...told, be part...the team and put...brain in neutral, and that kind...job will make...tired by noon.”

This idea...“rubber stamp fatigue” might be signaling...desire...change and more independence, which could speed up as primaries...and more GOP members rethink their stance...Trump's ideas.
