Rutger published: Margaret Cho Recounts Her Encounters with Donald Trump and "Celebrity Apprentice"

In a recent interview, Margaret Cho, the talented bisexual comedian and actress, opened up about her unexpected interactions with former President Donald Trump. According to Cho, Trump made persistent attempts to recruit her for his reality TV show, "The Celebrity Apprentice," and later for his 2016 presidential campaign.

Cho shared her experiences on Radio Andy's The Julia Cunningham Show, where she recounted the multiple invitations she received to join "The Celebrity Apprentice." "I was asked several times to be on [the show], season after season," Cho explained. "They kept saying, 'Well, Donald Trump really loves you. Please come on,' and I just had a bad feeling about it." Her instincts led her to decline the offers, despite the producers' insistence.

Supporting a Friend

Although Cho never became a contestant on "The Celebrity Apprentice," she did make an appearance during its 2010 season. Her involvement was limited to assisting with one of the show's challenges at a diner, a favor she did for her friend, pop icon and LGBTQ+ advocate Cyndi Lauper, who was a competitor at the time. Cho's dedication to her friends and the community was evident in her decision to participate in this limited capacity.

Later, Cho revealed how Trump's then-personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, reached out to her at the onset of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. "Somehow [Cohen] got my email and was really begging me to become part of the campaign," she recounted. Cho, a lifelong Democrat, found the request baffling. "I’m like, 'That’s insane,'" she told Cunningham, emphasizing her staunch political beliefs and her refusal to support a candidate she didn't agree with.

Political Turmoil and Personal Integrity

The year 2016 was tumultuous for Trump and his associates, as Cohen later confessed to facilitating hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, amidst accusations of an affair with Trump. Cohen's later admissions of campaign finance violations, tax evasions, and false statements to Congress highlighted the ethical challenges surrounding Trump's presidency.

Margaret Cho, on the other hand, has consistently championed LGBTQ+ rights and advocated for marginalized communities. As a bisexual Korean American, Cho broke barriers as one of the first Asian American female comedians to achieve widespread success. Her breakout role in the 1994 ABC sitcom "All American Girl" introduced her comedic talents to a national audience while shedding light on her personal experiences growing up in San Francisco.

Cho has documented her life and struggles in her 2021 memoir and one-woman show, "I’m the One That I Want," where she candidly discusses the racism and misogyny she faced in the entertainment industry. Her journey through body image issues and addiction highlights the broader societal challenges many artists encounter.

LGBTQ+ Advocacy and Artistic Legacy

Beyond her entertainment career, Cho remains a steadfast advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. Her support for organizations like the Matthew Shepard Foundation, Human Rights Campaign, and PFLAG reflects her commitment to social justice and equality.

Cho's activism extends to her candid commentary on political matters. Recently, she made headlines with a Facebook video addressing the dismissal of former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. In her signature style, Cho advised Noem to "flake that crusty puss somewhere else, girl," while critiquing Trump's appearance, calling him an "orange monstrosity." Her bold and unapologetic voice continues to resonate with audiences who value authenticity and courage in public discourse.

As Margaret Cho navigates her varied career across 43 films, 56 television shows, and eight stand-up specials, her legacy as a trailblazer and advocate remains firmly rooted in her dedication to her craft and her community.
