"Married At First Sight UK" (MAFS UK) has made its much-awaited comeback on Channel 4, and it didn't take long before it stirred up some drama. This season, all eyes are on brides Leah and Leigh and their headline-grabbing wedding, which has left quite a few fans upset. The core issue? Many viewers are saying Leah got a pretty raw deal.
In episode three, which hit screens on September 23, Leah and Leigh met at their wedding altar, both decked out in wedding dresses. But what should've been a magical moment quickly went sideways. Right after they exchanged vows, it was clear Leigh wasn't thrilled about having Leah as her new spouse.
Leigh didn't hold back during her private interviews. She admitted she wasn't feeling a spark with Leah, blaming it on a lack in what she called "masculine energy." Leigh, who sees herself as a spiritual person, gifted Leah a rose quartz during their ceremony. Leah, on her part, brushed it off as just a "stone," and that didn't exactly help smooth things over.
The tension didn't stop there. When it was time—or at least, traditionally time—for a newlywed kiss, Leigh opted just a cheek-peck. As they posed awkwardly through their wedding pictures, Leigh kept pulling away, avoiding any closeness with Leah. She even started quizzing Leah about how she sees herself—whether she's more masculine or feminine.
Leigh made no secret that she thought Leah seemed "really feminine" and openly questioned if she'd ever feel attracted. She also made it quite plain she needed her own space, going so far as asking if they could sleep in different rooms that night.
Fans didn't hold back on social media, slamming Leigh's actions toward Leah. Words like "cold" and "rude" were thrown around, especially considering that they're supposed be trying earnestly, at least, at marriage on this show.
One viewer didn't mince words, saying, "Heartlessly cold. Who goes on Married at First Sight and tells their bride they can't sleep in same room on night one? Where does she get off thinking that's okay?"
Another baffled fan noted, "First night after their wedding, and Leigh shows Leah out like she's a guest, then acts like she's doing her a favor by offering help with her suitcase."
Some fans also questioned Leigh's judgments about Leah's energy, wondering how she could make such a call after hardly any time together. "Not Leigh deciding her wife isn't right because she looked feminine at their wedding," one fan pointed out.
It seems like last year all over again, with fans drawing parallels between this couple and last season's trainwreck pair, Eve and Charlie.
As "Married At First Sight UK" unfolds on Channel 4, everyone wants see if Leah and Leigh can find something that connects them or if they're just too far apart. Can they work through their rocky start, or do their differences spell doom?
Time will tell if Leigh's stance will soften or if Leah will find a new path forward despite it all. Viewers are tuning in with their opinions and are encouraged keep discussions respectful as we see what happens.
"Married At First Sight UK" airs at 9 pm BST on Channel 4 and can be streamed on Channel 4's platforms. Don't miss out!
