In a recent chat on The Zach Sang Show, actor Lukas Gage got real about his journey on HBO's hit series, The White Lotus. He opened up about his career, shared some personal stories from his brief marriage with famous hairstylist Chris Appleton, and revealed insights from his memoir, I Wrote This For Attention.
Gage, who gained attention from his role in Overcompensating, spoke about how his viral scene in The White Lotus took him by surprise. In this memorable moment, his character Dillon and hotel manager Armond, played by Murray Bartlett, get caught in a rather unexpected situation. "I never thought that moment would blow up online like it did," Gage admitted, still amazed at its impact.
When Zach Sang mentioned a different initial plan on how that scene would play out, Gage explained, "Not too different. It was always going in that direction. It was all about pushing those limits just a bit more," leading it down in history as one unforgettable TV moment.
Apart from his work, Gage talked about his whirlwind romance with Chris Appleton. The pair let fans in on their blossoming relationship with some stunning vacation photos in March 2023. By April, they were engaged, and just 19 days later, they tied that knot in a private ceremony with big names like Kim Kardashian and Shania Twain present.
However, what seemed like a fairy tale came with an abrupt ending in November when Appleton filed paperwork citing "irreconciliable differences." Reflecting on it, Gage said, "Honestly, it felt like a fever dream. There was definitely love and excitement there at one point," he shared. "But I look back now and see so many versions I've been, and realize that's okay. At that time, I thought it all made sense."
Gage also touched on an amusing yet controversial story from his memoir about picking up an STD from a dip in an ocean. He was surprised by how much it resonated with readers, saying, "I wrote that late one night, just cracking myself up. It never crossed my mind it would reach so many people."
This led him onto a bigger topic—the stigma around mental health and sexuality. "There's so much stigma," he said. "Why make it a big deal? Why carry shame? I wanted, no, needed, just own it and not hide."
The interview gives insight & shows elements that shaped who Gage has become. Both fans and first-time listeners should check out this interview, giving them a fuller picture.
