Liz Carmouche Celebrates PFL Win with Her Son's Support
Liz Carmouche, a trailblazer in women's MMA, showcased her incredible skills once more at Friday night's Professional Fighters League (PFL) event. With her distinctive rainbow mouthguard in place, she scored an important victory in PFL's World Women's Flyweight tournament. In "PFL 9" in Charlotte, North Carolina, Carmouche defeated Jena Bishop by TKO in round three during a co-main event that had fans on their feet.
The fight was fierce, especially during a tense second round when Bishop tried a triangle choke. But Carmouche turned things around in round three with a decisive left hook that rattled Bishop. Seizing her chance, she unleashed a flurry that ended in referee intervention and a technical knockout win.
Afterward, Carmouche reflected on her strategy, aiming at Bishop's ground game with fierce striking. "I strayed a bit from my plan," she admitted. "If I'd stuck with it, I might've ended it in round one or two since my hits were landing so well."
This victory was extra special with her son cheering in person. "Having him in my corner means everything," she beamed. "I'm so happy I delivered and brought home this victory."
It's also a sweet redemption story. Last year, she fell short in a semifinal match against Talia Santos. Since switching from UFC in 2019, Carmouche has racked up impressive wins, including a 7-0 streak in Bellator and capturing their Women's Flyweight title in 2022.
Carmouche's resume speaks volumes. She was part a historic moment as one half in UFC's first women's fight against Ronda Rousey back in 2013. Later that year, she took part in UFC's first all-LGBTQ fight against Jessica Andrade.
Carmouche's latest triumph hasn't gone unnoticed. Even during UFC 319's prelims, Joe Rogan made sure everyone heard about her impressive feat, as he commented during a discussion on Jessica Andrade's match with Loopy Godinez.
With a PFL championship belt in her collection, Carmouche's eyes are set on more goals. She's calling on PFL organizers about starting a women's bantumweight division and eagerly awaits a chance against Dakota Ditcheva, who dominates PFL's Women's Flyweight tournaments globally and in Europe.
"I'm eager and ready whenever Dakota wants," she said, looking forward new challenges on her horizon.
Liz Carmouche cements her legacy not only as an MMA legend but also as an inspirational figure in LGBTQ+ sports. Her determination and spirit continue pushing past limits and setting new standards in her field.
