Rutger published: Lady Gaga Champions LGBTQ+ Rights During ‘Mayhem’ Album Tour

Lady Gaga, the iconic pop singer known for her dynamic performances and unwavering support for LGBTQ+ rights, has once again used her platform to champion the queer and trans community. Her sixth studio album, Mayhem, debuted at number one on the Billboard albums chart, marking a triumphant peak in her promotional tour filled with messages of solidarity and love for LGBTQ+ individuals.

During this period of heightened visibility, Gaga made several appearances where she spoke passionately about the importance of LGBTQ+ rights, particularly at a time when these rights are under threat in the United States. At the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she was honored with the Innovator Award, Gaga dedicated her speech to her fans, affectionately known as her “Little Monsters,” and emphasized her gratitude towards the LGBTQ+ community.

Standing with the Community

“You taught me bravery, even before the world was ready to listen,” Gaga expressed, acknowledging the courage and resilience of LGBTQ+ individuals. “Your courage fuels mine every single day.” Her words were met with an enthusiastic response from the audience, including rapper and new Grammy-winner Doechii, who introduced Gaga as a vital figure for queer youth.

Doechii praised Gaga’s influence, stating, “Gaga taught us it was OK to be our true selves, to explore, to express, and to create. She is forever new, fresh, and different, and that’s not just acceptable; it’s ideal.”

Advocacy at the Grammys

Gaga’s advocacy was also highlighted at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where she received a standing ovation for her bold statements supporting the trans community. While accepting the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside Bruno Mars for their song "Die with a Smile," Gaga declared, “Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love. Music is love.”

In a candid interview on The New York Times’ The Interview podcast, Gaga reflected on her public persona and the inherent political nature of her work. She stated, “I’m not interested in being famous just to stand for nothing. It’s a privilege to stand with people who are amazing. I’m in awe of the trans community, and of the LGBTQ+ community.”

Gaga emphasized the significance of using her platform to speak about meaningful issues, especially when audiences worldwide are listening. “We can’t just whisper about these things; we need to say them out loud,” she asserted.

Speaking Out Loud

In another interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Gaga addressed the injustices faced by transgender Americans, labeling the current political climate as “completely unfair and wrong.” She called for a collective effort to support and uplift trans people, urging her fans and the broader public to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

Gaga further elaborated on her nearly two-decade-long relationship with her fan base, describing it as a journey intertwined with social justice and mutual support. She expressed gratitude for having a fan base that stands for something and supports each other’s stories.

“I can’t imagine what being famous would have been like without fans who stand for something significant,” she said, underscoring the importance of advocacy and positive influence.

Lady Gaga’s ongoing commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and her vocal support during her Mayhem tour underscore her role as a steadfast ally and advocate for the community. Her actions and words continue to inspire her fans and remind us all of the power of music and activism in bringing about social change.
