La Voix, the dazzling performer known from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, is thrilled to be making waves by stepping into the spotlight on Strictly Come Dancing. Known for her flamboyant style and magnetic stage presence, La Voix is breaking new ground in the world of competitive dance on television.
Recently joining the cast of Strictly Come Dancing, La Voix will share the dance floor with a star-studded lineup that includes EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal, former Love Island winner Dani Dyer, and Doctor Who star Alex Kingston. The excitement is palpable as La Voix reflects on her journey so far. "It’s so exciting," she exclaims, adding with a laugh, "It’s petrifying. It’s everything you can imagine, doing something like this." Though she boasts an impressive resume—including appearances on Britain’s Got Talent and Queen of the Universe—the challenge of Strictly is unlike any other.
"I’ve never done anything like this in my life!" La Voix admits. "It’s a completely new ball game." Despite the daunting prospect of performing complex routines such as the Paso Doble live in front of millions, she is committed to diving in headfirst with her characteristic enthusiasm. "It’s either going to be a disaster, or it’s going to be phenomenal," she laughs, embracing the uncertainty with open arms.
As a seasoned performer, La Voix is confident in her ability to bring her unique flair to the competition. "I’m going to channel the spectacle and the performance I’m known for," she says. "Big energy, big sparkles." This vibrant approach is sure to captivate both the judges and audiences alike.
What makes La Voix’s participation in Strictly particularly historic is her distinctive style. "I might be the only person ever going on Strictly that’s going to be dressing down for the live shows," she quips, noting her daily penchant for wearing sequins. While her dance partner remains a mystery, she is eager to find someone who can match her energy and ambition.
"For me, this is the biggest entertainment show on the BBC, if not across all TV networks. And I want to bring that performance level, sparkle, and glitz," she declares. If all goes according to plan, the glitter ball trophy awaits her at the end of this exhilarating journey.
In addition to rehearsing for Strictly, La Voix is gearing up for her upcoming UK tour, The Show Isn’t Over. Kicking off in Mold, Wales, the tour will take her to Glasgow, Manchester, Cornwall, Stockton, Portsmouth, Brighton, and the illustrious London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Fans can expect a dazzling showcase featuring La Voix’s renditions of iconic divas such as Liza Minelli, Judy Garland, Shirley Bassey, Madonna, and Cher, complete with bespoke songs for each stop and high-octane pyrotechnics.
"It’s either going to be the most unforgettable spectacle of the night, or I’ll be wheeled on for a Q&A with my foot in a foot spa, depending on how exhausted I am from Strictly," she jokes, demonstrating her trademark humor.
La Voix’s performances are deeply inspired by the music she grew up listening to, thanks to her father’s record collection. "Hearing Donna Summer, Barbra Streisand, Tina Turner and more blasting through the house inspired my own sense of myself as a diva," she shares. "It’s something that inspired my whole career, and each one of those divas, they’re not just in there because the songs are great and everyone loves them. They’re in there because I genuinely have a connection to them when I perform."
As if her schedule isn’t packed enough, La Voix also looks forward to the pantomime season at year’s end. She’s set to return to the Wycombe Swan for Jack and the Beanstalk, alongside BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills, where she’ll play Dame Trot—or perhaps "Dame Foxtrot," as she humorously suggests.
Pantomime holds a special place in La Voix’s heart, having been a part of her life for over 25 years. "I adore kids coming and dressing up as the characters," she explains. "I adore the families, it’s such a cross-generational art form, I love it. It’s where so many kids see theatre for the first time."
Reflecting on her own childhood experiences, she recalls the magic of annual panto trips. "You’ll never forget that memory of ‘Oh, do you remember when we used to go and see that,’" she reminisces. "It’s a lovely thing to do."
La Voix’s The Show Isn’t Over tour runs from 17 September to 5 November. Don’t miss the chance to witness this extraordinary performer in action.
