In an exciting new development, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK sensation La Voix has secured a major role just days after making the difficult decision to withdraw from the popular television show, Strictly Come Dancing. The 45-year-old drag superstar is set to portray the notorious Miss Hannigan in the UK and Ireland tour of the cherished, Tony Award-winning musical Annie.
The musical’s tour will commence at the New Wimbledon Theatre in London on Saturday, 23 May 2026. From there, La Voix will grace the stages in Birmingham, Manchester, Plymouth, and Canterbury between May and July. This role marks a significant milestone for La Voix, who will be stepping into the shoes of one of musical theatre's most iconic villains.
La Voix will be joined by renowned West End performer Alex Bourne, who will take on the role of billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Together, they will bring to life the story set against the backdrop of the Great Depression in 1930s New York. Annie follows the journey of a young orphan who is taken from a miserable existence in an orphanage, run by the villainous Miss Hannigan, to a new life full of hope.
Initially, Warbucks reluctantly invites Annie to spend the Christmas holidays at his luxurious mansion. Despite his initial disappointment that Annie is a girl, the two form a deep bond, which is something Miss Hannigan is determined to disrupt.
While Annie last captivated West End audiences in 2018 and Broadway in 2014, the anticipation for this tour is mounting. La Voix, who shot to fame as a runner-up on Drag Race UK season six in 2024, has more recently been a household name in the UK due to her participation in the 23rd series of Strictly Come Dancing.
During her time on Strictly, La Voix impressed audiences and judges alike, making it to the top seven. However, an unfortunate injury forced her to skip week nine, and after consulting with the medical team, she made the difficult decision to withdraw from the competition.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, La Voix shared, “Darlings, it breaks my heart to say this, but after all week of hoping, healing, and doing everything I possibly could, my injury simply hasn’t improved the way we prayed it would. With the guidance of the medical team and a heavy, heavy heart I have to officially withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing.”
The news of her departure was met with an outpouring of support from her followers and friends, including notable figures such as Kyran Thrax, Michelle Visage, and fellow Strictly star Vicky Pattison. La Voix expressed deep gratitude towards her dance partner, Aljaž Škorjanec, saying, “He has supported me, encouraged me, and believed in me from day one, and I so desperately wanted to keep dancing for him as much as for myself.”
Despite the setback, La Voix’s career is going from strength to strength. Her new Christmas single, “The Magic Of Christmas,” has topped the UK iTunes chart, bringing festive cheer to her fans. Additionally, she is set to charm audiences in the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime at the Wycombe Swan, alongside Radio 1 DJ, Scott Mills, starting December 12.
Tickets for Annie are available now, and fans are encouraged to secure their seats to witness this extraordinary performance.
La Voix continues to inspire her fans with her resilience and dedication. Her journey demonstrates that even in the face of challenges, new opportunities await. Join the conversation and share your thoughts in the comments, keeping the discussion respectful and supportive.
