KATSEYE star Megan recently shared her personal journey of coming out as bisexual, revealing that she was initially "definitely scared" about opening up about her sexuality.
In a heartfelt announcement this June, Megan became the second member of the girl group to come out this year, following Lara, who publicly shared her own journey in March. Megan playfully expressed her bisexuality to her fans, describing herself as "half fruitcake".
Megan first confided in her friends and family about her sexual orientation when she was just 14 years old. Now, she has taken to the South Korean musical artist platform Weverse to openly discuss her bisexual identity. During a joint livestream with Lara, she bravely declared, "I’m coming out — I’m bisexual".
The announcement was made just before KATSEYE’s recent appearance at the Teen Vogue Summit in Los Angeles on September 20th, where all six members — Daniela, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae — reflected on their individual and collective journeys.
During the summit, Megan spoke candidly about the overwhelmingly positive response she has received from KATSEYE’s LGBTQ+ fans. "The response has been so heartwarming and welcoming. I just felt so loved the second that I decided to come out as bisexual," she stated, echoing sentiments she shared with Out Magazine.
The crowd's cheers were a testament to the support she received, and Megan expressed her gratitude by saying: "I could not be more grateful for the response that we've both gotten from everyone, from the eyecons, from the internet. I was definitely scared, especially like what you said, in the industry, you don't really see it as often, but everyone was so so loving and I couldn't be more grateful and thankful for every one of you guys."
As an artist in the music industry, Megan's decision to come out publicly is particularly significant. The entertainment world has historically been a challenging environment for LGBTQ+ artists to express their identities openly, but Megan's courage and the love she received serves as an inspiring example for others.
In a related note, after coming out, Lara received an award from the Los Angeles LGBT Centre, where she delivered a moving speech about her own coming out journey. She reflected on her experiences, saying, "Growing up, I dealt with a lot of complexity and fear understanding my queerness and being able to voice it out loud."
Lara's words resonated deeply, as she acknowledged the bravery required to live one's truth. "I just want to say to all of you that are living your truth now, I understand how much courage it takes, and I see your bravery. I know what it’s like to be very afraid and live in that fear, but now that I’m older and I understand it, I want you to know that I will continue to speak up for us as a Brown queer girl," Lara declared.

Bisexuality, as defined by the LGBTQ+ charity Stonewall, is an "umbrella term" that encompasses romantic and/or sexual orientation towards more than one gender. It’s a spectrum that allows individuals to connect with multiple identities and orientations.
