This renowned star of Bridgerton and Wicked is preparing to transition from screen to stage – specifically to the celebrated Bridge Theatre – in a thrilling new production of Shakespeare’s iconic historical drama. The play is under the direction of Nicholas Hytner, who notably held the position of director at The National Theatre from 2003 to 2015.

Jonathan Bailey is not the sole notable name in the cast of Richard II. Also joining the production is Royce Pierreson, recognized for his role in The Witcher, who will bring the character of Henry Bullingbrook to life.

Additionally, Olivia Popica, known for her performances in The Wheel of Time and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, will portray Queen Isabel. Meanwhile, Phoenix Di Sebastiani, whose work includes The Great and Top Boy, will take on the role of Thomas Mowbray, as well as the Groom.

Recently wrapping up filming for Jurassic World Rebirth alongside Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey finds himself with a window of opportunity in his schedule. According to a synopsis from Universal Pictures, the film explores a world five years post the events of Jurassic World Dominion, where the earth’s ecosystems have become largely inhospitable to dinosaurs, confining them to isolated equatorial zones.

Though Richard II vastly differs from Jurassic World Rebirth – swapping dinosaurs for dukes – Jonathan Bailey’s versatility shines through. From elegantly navigating period dramas to energetically dancing on dining tables at Shiz University, Bailey’s adaptability is unquestionable. His Shakespearean credentials are well-established, having portrayed Edgar opposite the legendary Sir Ian McKellen in a 2017 production of King Lear.
