Jon Lee, once a shining member from S Club 7, has opened up about a very personal and tough chapter in his life—his battle with crystal meth addiction. It was during those early 2000s, at a time when S Club 7 was all over our screens and radios, that Jon faced his darkest days with this struggle.>
There was a time when Jon was blowing around £250 every week on crystal meth. It wasn't just his wallet that took a hit, but every aspect his life. "There were days I'd look in a mirror and had no idea who I was anymore," he recounted, sharing moments when his behavior turned destructive, like when he smashed up his apartment during a breakdown. He'd catch sight in a reflection and think, "What on earth's happened?">
The grip this drug had on him was terrifying, causing paranoia and hallucinations. By 2019, things were so bad he had no option but being sectioned—to keep him safe. Thinking back on that period, he admitted, "I have no clue how I pulled through," aware he was a danger not just physically, but mentally, and on his family too.>
Losing his dad in 2014, who battled motor neurone disease, hit Jon hard. It was a sorrow that seemed only manageable through drugs. Yet, over these recent years, he's gradually turned things around.>
To change his life, Jon went on a journey—both literally and within himself. While traveling, he met a rescue dog in India. This chance meeting gave him new purpose, pushing him towards sobriety and a positive path.>
Back in 2022, Jon returned home and started rebuilding his life. He set up three rescue centers, channeling his energy towards helping animals. This work reconnected him with his family, moving close by his mum and sister in Cornwall, and fixing relationships strained by his past.>
Earlier this year, Jon stepped back onto our screens in Celebs Go Dating, where he struck up a connection with Jordan Fairhurst. This phase marked a fresh beginning, offering him extra stability.>
Fast forward a bit, and in May 2023, Jon, along with S Club mates Tina Barrett, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O'Mearra, and Rachel Stevens, announced they'd be coming back, though without Paul Cattermole and Hannah Spearritt. Despite facing these sad changes, they're looking forward and excited about rekindling their bond with fans.>
Jon's story, with its ups and downs, serves as a stark reminder about how real and serious addiction can be. His road from there back showcases how one can rise and inspire. Sharing what he went through, Jon wants others in similar shoes—don't hide, get help.>
Jon Lee stands as a testament—a beacon showing how people can change and fight back against their demons. His openness about these past challenges shines a light on substance issues, especially among LGBTQ+ folks. Though statistics from 2005 showed lower usage among gay men in Britain, Jon's story reveals how severe addiction can become.>
Focusing on recovery, Jon plans on making positive changes—through his animal work and speaking out in LGBTQ+ communities, raising awareness, and pushing support. We'd love our readers' thoughts.
