Mark your calendar because Montgomery County's Pride in The Plaza promises a day you won't forget. Set against downtown Silver Spring's bustling backdrop, this vibrant celebration on June 29, from noon till 8 p.m., invites you with open arms. With its powerful theme, "We Will Not Be Silenced. We Will Not Be Erased," this year promises even more sparkle and spirit.
Organized by Live In Your Truth with friends like MoCo Pride Center, Inc., Montgomery County Pride Family, and Montgomery County Health and Human Services, this event isn't just a party—it's a movement. Thousands are expected, all coming together in a celebration that champions love, authenticity, and freedom.
"We've got two stages, wellness vendors, queer-owned businesses, and partners who are here because they believe in our LGBTQIA+ community," shared Phillip Alexander Downie, CEO at Live In Your Truth. "This year, we're going bigger and better than ever before."
There's something here that'll capture everyone, no matter your age. From a fabulous drag story hour and face painting perfecting your look, right through scientific wonders and community showcases, excitement's around every corner. And don't miss out on "Drag Duels Season 4," an Emmy-nominated series finale hosted by Live In Your Truth—it'll be a showstopper you won't want anyone telling you about secondhand.
Community champions like Montgomery Council President Kate Stewart, Council Vice President Will Jawando, and Councilmember Evan Glass will also be there, lending their voices and support.
"In Montgomery County, you've got powerful allies who stand with you," Downie affirmed. "The County Council's backed this initiative two years running, and that support speaks volumes—they truly believe you belong in these spaces, in your schools, and in our future."
Stroll through and find special zones like a Family Fun Zone or take a breather in our Pride Cool Down Lounge, a refreshing chill-out spot. Essential services won't just be in spirit; they'll be on hand too, with free onsite STI testing, health screenings, and helpful community resource stations.
"Our sponsors are folks who get it, like main stage sponsor Gileade, boosting wellness and PrEP in LGBTQIA+ communities," Downie pointed out.
Even as federal funds tighten, Downie praised these organizations' unwavering support. "They're stepping up, fighting against disease and advocating that Black LGBTQIA+ lives—and all lives—matter, and trans rights are human rights," he said. "Every queer sibling, especially our BIPOC siblings facing unique hurdles, matter immensely and belong here."
In a wild political climate, Downie knows offering resources and a supportive community isn't just nice, it's necessary. "For many, it really can be life-saving," he remarked. "I want every attendee leaving with a full heart, knowing you're seen and valued. Despite any noise trying otherwise, you belong here."
Downie passionately conveyed why standing in solidarity means everything. "There's so much love waiting out there—you just haven't met them all yet," he smiled. "This community promises a future rich with love and support. Get out there, find your tribe, and make some memories."
Montgomery County's Pride in The Plaza isn't just another event on your list; it's a celebration—a powerful declaration that who you are matters. Join us in Silver Spring because it's about more than just showing up; it's about showing out with joy, connection, and empowerment.
