Rutger published: Jermelle Simon from “The Upshaws” Engaged to Influencer Obio Jones

Big news hit entertainment fans recently: Jermelle Simon, who stole our hearts on Netflix's "The Upshaw's," just got engaged! He's found his partner in love with social media star Obio Jones, and they're both overjoyed and eager about this new chapter.

A proposal filled with love and laughter

The proposal was sweetly intimate, with family adding an extra layer. Obio asked Jermelle this big question right after they settled in together. Their new house, marking a new beginning in their lives, served as a fitting place for this memorable occasion.

Family played a key role

Jones shared how he planned this special surprise with some help from Simon's kids. "The day we got our keys was hectic—everyone was busy claiming their rooms," Jones shared. "Jermelle and I were in our bedroom when I had each kid come in with notes celebrating him." The messages were all about love and gratitude. "He thought it was about our new home until I dropped down on one knee. Boom, it hit him!"

Jermelle was truly caught off guard but happy. "Usually, I'd have some kind of clue," he confessed. "But Obio managed to include the kids and everyone close to me, and no one spilled anything. It made it so much more meaningful because I was ready—yet surprised, something that doesn't often happen."

Dreams and plans ahead

For now, they're taking it slow on wedding preparations. "We've given ourselves a month or so to stop calling each other boyfriend by mistake before we dive in," Jones laughed.

"We're just enjoying being engaged right now," Simon chimed in. They want to savor this moment in their relationship before moving on.

Owning their true selves

Known for playing Bernard "Bennie" Upshaw Jr. on "The Upshaw's," Jermelle has been upfront about his personal journey towards self-acceptance. His character came out as gay last year, and Simon took part in National Coming Out Day last October, announcing his own truth.

In a heartfelt message, Simon said, "Happy National Coming Out Day, wherever you're at in your journey—whether now, later, or never." He talked about his own experiences, sharing, "I'm choosing to embrace every part of who I am, loving myself without conditions."

Meant for each other

Since coming out, Simon gushes about Jones, calling him "the perfect boyfriend." Their relationship's built on friendship and respect. "I've found someone who I share a deep friendship with, someone who loves in a way I never knew before," Simon expressed.

"He's someone who challenges me in just the right ways. He lights up my whole life. I hit the jackpot and found the ideal guy."

Their relationship, deeply connected and supportive, showcases how beautiful love can be when it's truly mutual.

"The Upshaw's": Bringing truth to screen

"The Upshaw's" keeps winning over viewers by depicting the everyday ups and downs of a Black working-class family. With Bennie, Simon's character, making strides in both LGBTQ+ and Black communities, the show sparks meaningful discussions on identity and acceptance.

Jermelle Simon's engagement to Obio Jones isn't just personal news; it's a celebration of embracing love and being real. As their new journey unfolds, their story serves as an inspirational example of following your truth and finding joy.

Keep an eye out for more updates on their adventure and more from "The Upshaw's," a series that keeps pushing limits and reaching hearts worldwide.
