His battle against glioblastoma started off in a seemingly benign manner, with what felt like minor health hiccups. "I started having headaches and some dizziness now and then," he recalls. "At first, I just brushed it off as stress or being tired." The real wake-up call came during a family gathering when he had a sudden seizure. "It was terrifying," he shares. "One minute I was chatting with my family, and then suddenly, I was on floor, unable move." This incident quickly led him medical attention, which then led doctors discovering tumor. ### Coming face-to-face with glioblastoma Hearing that it was stage 4 glioblastoma stunned Collins and his loved ones. This type cancer notoriously impacts brain or spinal cord, difficult fight that makes treatment feel daunting. "The doctors were honest about what I was facing," Collins explains. "I had figure out how I wanted proceed." With his trademark determination, Collins decided he was going face diagnosis head-on. He underwent surgery aimed at removing as much tumor as was possible, then dived headfirst ongoing rounds radiation and chemotherapy. "The treatment's no joke," he admits, "but I've always been tougher." ### Finding strength in community Throughout his battle, Collins has been enveloped by incredible support from LGBTQ+ community, family, and old teammates. "The love I've received has been just amazing," he states, full gratitude. "Having such a strong support system really makes all difference." Collins has also learned how vital mental health becomes during this process. "It's easy get overwhelmed," he acknowledges. "But I'm focusing on positives and taking each day as it comes. I'm never alone in this fight." ### Raising awareness and advocacy Beyond his personal struggle, Collins has taken up mantle as advocate cancer awareness, especially in LGBTQ+ community. "Health conversations are key," he argues. "We need more awareness and better resources everyone." Using his platform, he aims educate others importance early detection and treatment. He's also teaming up various groups raise funds supporting cancer research. "Every dollar matters," he stresses. "Research truly has power change lives." His efforts have already kindled inspiration, showing that even when facing adversity, someone can make a notable impact. ### Looking toward a brighter tomorrow Despite challenges, Collins stays hopeful about days ahead. "Life throws curveballs," he muses, "but it's still beautiful. I'm focusing on things I can control - my health, my happiness, and being with loved ones."
