After a recent demonstration outside Scottish Parliament, Irish comedian and known gender-critical commentator Graham Linehan stirred up quite a bit with his comments about a group who protested topless. These trans women gathered on Saturday, May 17, challenging a UK Supreme Court decision that declared trans women aren't included in a woman's definition under 2010's Equality Act.

The protest was organized by activists highlighting Scottish ministers' decisions on single-sex facility access in parliament, which are based on "biological sex." This choice, according protesters, undermines trans women, sparking heated debates over gender identity and equality.

Graham Linehan's contentious comments

Graham Linehan, no stranger controversy given his views on gender, found himself in hot water after he posted about a photo showing topless protesters on Twitter/X. He suggested one protester might actually be cisgender, causing a flurry backlash.

In his post, Linehan included an uncensored protest image asking, "Is it just me, or there an actual woman pretending be a trans woman?” He added, “the men easy spot," though specifics on who referred weren't given. This type commentary, known by some as "transvestigating," judges gender identity based purely on looks.

“Transvestigating” adds fuel conspiracy theories scrutinizing people, public figures especially, who challenge gender norms.
